Raced against a 550i, give me a little advice/knowledge on what happened here...

Long story short, i got the jump on him and he gave up (didn't catch up) once we hit the twisties...

however...in first gear, i have a step, I hit some slight uneven road sections which caused the car to basically "hiccup" twice, i saw something flash on my screen (possible DSC or DTC, not sure tho), and i literally went forward in my seat from the power loss! Did i redline or does DSC/DTC cause that car to, for lack of a better/technical word, reset???

DSC reduces power power, applies brakes, and performs actions necessary to prevent you from damaging your car, yourself, or things around you. If you hit a bump, you may experience a loss of traction through actual loss of contact or a reduced contact patch that allows the torque to accelerate the rear wheel faster than the front wheels. This will cause the computer to intervene.

You can reduce the threshold of this occurrence by pressing the DSC button once on your console. If you hold the button for four seconds, all nannies except for ABS will be disabled.

+1

I know magazines say BMW traction control doesn't intervene as much as in other cars, but when it does come on, it can come on HARD. I'm sure what happened is the car noticed the wheels' loss of traction, and it cut fuel and braked.

In order to fuly understand how DSC, DTC and ABS work and to learn how to take complete control of your car, you should go to BMW Driver Training. Worths every minute of your time there and every penny you spend.

you hit a bump... i have a bump outside my work right on a turn, everytime if i hit it, the power drops and then surges back once it regains traction. Lots of crappy on ramps the same way around here.
