Finding a car [In Canada]

Good afternoon,

I am trying to relocate my dad's old Fiat Spider for his 60th birthday. Now, I have contacted the owner (my friend's dad) right after him, but he doesn't remember who exactly bought it from him afterwards. I don't want my dad to know about this... so if somehow I get my hands on the VIN number, could that be possible to relocate? Could I contact Fiat.. or something?!

You could call up provincial licensing centers. They might be able to help
