Things went pretty good. Kept the hydration up, even though we had to stop a few more times than I would have liked on the way. Was able to do some breathing exercises while driving too.
Got to the cabin about 7 NYE, and since it was only 18 outside, I was "encouraged" to forget about pack-muling everything into the house and just get the fire/heater going. I had a few nips of Jack to keep the internal fires burning, then was placed on grill duty to make dinner. I told them not to make the mashed potatoes that early, it had only gotten to 36 degrees in the kitchen by the time they were done, and the steaks were still way too rare. Next morning I woke up and the joints were a bit stiff, but that may have been cold and not altitude. Took it easy but kept walking stairs. By the 3rd day we went "hiking" to find a decent patch of snow for sledding. That made the hips hurt, but most of the time I could breathe fine. There was one classic moment where I was screaming out "I can't BREATHE" like I was in NYC. I laid down on a boogieboard type sled and the wife was SUPPOSED to get on but be hanging off the back and have her head in the small of my back. Instead she laid right on top of my shoulders and I had to roll her off Returning was weird. The first two nights I woke up in the middle and had some wicked spins. I had no alcohol this year to explain it. Washing the car the day after returning, bending over to reach the bottom produced some dizziness as well. |
