Audi C5 S6 Avant

Anyone have any experience with a 2002-2003 Audi c5 s6 avant?

If so I would be interested in hearing about pros/cons and any other relevant info.

I have been considering picking up a wagon as a DD that's still decently fun to drive and was considering this model.

Yes I kind of assumed there would be some maintenance given the age/miles and it being a luxury performance car.

Can you elaborate on what items you are speaking to? Specifically the higher expense issues?

From what I know, which isnt a whole lot, is that between the electrical system, the transmission and the turbos going belly up, they can be a nuisance.

I would consult a VW/Audi specialist

I very well may be wrong, but I thought the c5 s6 used a NA 4.2L v8?

I think you are correct, the 5.2 V10 didn't come in until the C6 S6 as far as I know. My last car was a C6 A6 4.2L and that engine is incredible! No problems in my experience, a few issues I thought were electircal gremlins ( error codes on headlights and tail lights) turned out to be early warning signs. I loved that car and put KWV1's on it along with a Unitronic ECU flash and the car performed exceptionally well for the model and size- then I drove the E92 M3 and made the easy decision. Biggest difference for me was torque ( much better in the Audi 4.2, but I clearly understand it has a different purpose vs the high reving V8 in the M cars- my god what a beautiful noise that engine makes.

Im just talking about Audi's of that generation in general. Trust me, I for whatever reason have a boner for that generation Allroad and I was told to stay the hell away.

I almost got a B7 RS4 in 2007, and again earlier this year before I got my M4, but again was told that maintenance is a nightmare when shit starts breaking.

All I'm saying is, do all the homework you can before you take a plunge on an Audi of this generation. your $4,500 "deal" can turn into a $15,000 pit pretty quickly

EDIT: Not quite the same exact car, but have a look here.

Pretty sure the C5 had a timing belt, while mid cycle, the C6 changed to a chain.

That 4.2L is a gas guzzler too. Power compared to the physical size/price/weight/fuel consumption is pretty poor compared to other V8 offerings of that era. It was a reason I wouldn't consider an S4 (I also wanted a coupe) when I got my E92 - sounds a hell of a lot better than the N54 though.
