Question about iphone

Hey guys, I just got an iphone but am currently still committed to my verizon contract. Is it possible to just use the iphone like the itouch? Just use it for wifi, ipod, and such? I just wanted to use it like this until my contract terminates in February. ThankS!

my best guess is you can't.

I think you have to register the phone to see the main page (or back ground).

maybe not...

You can, but you have to jailbreak the phone first.

So you can power on and get past the activation screen

Once you turn on the phone for the first time, you will have to activate it. The only thing you can do is dial 911. So no Wifi, no iPod, and no photo capabilities.

Gotta jailbreak it, but did you go to an ATT store? Or you just got one off ebay or something?

You can unlock it and use it for any carrier now.

Yes you can in about 10 mins or less if you have computer experience and a Mac.

If the firmware is 1.1.2 unlocking is not possible.

I just sold my last unlocked iphone and bought a touch, if your gong to use it for what you described get the touch its a much better device and you never have to worry about activation or bricking it. Plus its thiner and the battery lasts a heck of a lot longer.
