In worst case, if I fight, and the cop does show up with any proof that I was going that fast, then what's going to happen? in case of w/lawyer, and without lawyer ?

Again, if I recall, as soon as I saw the cop going in other direction, I could tell he immediately made u-turn as well as I immediately reduced speed. So I think what he estimated or clocked was my maximum speed and it only last in a sec.
One other way of getting out of the ticket is to ask the court to verify that the radar gun he was using (if he was using one) has been properly, and routinely calibrated. The book/author I mentioned earlier on Stern said that all radar guns are, for the most part, properly maintained. He said that if the precinct is in a relatively populated city, odds are they won't be able to locate the calibration paperwork and you'll get off.

Here is the link to the guy: www.beataspeedingticket.com

my friend got 103 in 55 at the same zone, and he didn't go to jail either. After all, he paid reduced penalty (from $800 to $300) with 30 days of license suspention. He didn't hire lawyer.

btw , how much I expect to pay in order to hire a lawyer for such case?

In VA it says on the ticket how they clocked your speed.

If the cop did indeed clock you I'm guessing he had moving radar. Moving radar can get you from behind, in front, coming or going.

Like others have said I'd hire a lawyer. Don't bank on the cop not showing. Look for a lawyer who is local to the county you got ticketed in. Try to find one who knows the local judges, prosecutors, and cops.

I just noticed that the cop wrote my speed as '100 mph or greater' .
What's wrong with this guy? did he even clock it?

Assuming by my friend's precedent case, even if I go to court without a lawyer , I might get reduced penalty. But then, what's the advantage of hiring lawyer??

I've never been to court before, so I have no clue what's going to happen.
Again any word will be appreciated.

The place I got my ticket is such a small township like place called 'solvang'. It's Denmark(not sure) town.

Tickets please

I'm not convinced that no radar = no ticket. If the cop's explanation is reasonably credible he may still be able to convince "a reasonable man" that you were speeding. That being said, you can still reasonably argue that you were well under 100 mph for reasons already mentioned...Perhaps the officer's burden of proof will be higher for a suspension than for a fine....points like this are why one needs a lawyer.

The fact that your friend got a ticket at the same spot suggests that this is a speed trap and you may very well have been clocked (it just takes a press of the button on a radar gun, and can be done from across a street)...you didn't by any chance run over two wires running across the road, did you?

Definitely spring for the lawyer. Remember that a bad ticket or suspension will jack your insurance too.
CD heaven has a point about your future driving record, as well.

Again, best of luck to ya. Let us know how it goes .

sometimesssss, in this great country of america, the lawyer you hire will be "Friends" with the judge that hears your case, not drinking friends, but they work in the same profession, they see each other alot, have had a lot of cases already, and sometimes just hiring a lawyer that somewhat knows the judge, can get you out of the ticket completely. thats 1, of many reasons to hire a laywer. then you have the fact that a lawyer makes you look professional, a lawyer knows what to look for on the ticket to get it throw out, if they spelt your last name wrong, or put the wrong color of the car on your ticket, the lawyer might be able to get it thrown out. the lawyer will postpone the case 100000 times so that by the time the case actually goes to court, the cop has long forgotten about the whole thing and wont show up.
hire a lawyer.

Ok, in cali LEOs can make estimates of speeds and have them accepted (same as any other evidence) at face value by the court.

That cop punked you and he knew it. In cali there is a new section of vehicle code signed in by Arhnold, CVC 22348 aka the 100mph speed law.
If you ticket was written for 22348 get a lawyer, the penalties are much more severe than regular speeding tickets.
Also the penalties go up if you get another similar ticket in the future within a time period.

You can avoid this again by just not speeding.

sometimes we need to learn the hard way . I did. IF you get a lawyer you'll get off without the license suspension 100%. You will have to pay the fines and depending on the judge he might reduce the points. I got a ticket for doing 110 in a 50 awhile back.

Changed lane, and gased it, going fast because I was trying to pass him from quite behind and had to pass him before the 2 lanes becomes one. But never looked speedometer. As I passed him, I saw this cop going in other direction. After he saw me, he quickly made U-turn and chased me. Since I knew I was speeding, and saw him making U-turn, I spontaneously pulled over even before he said so.

Then, there was not much talk. He just asked my driving licence and registration, and I was trying to ask his mercy but, he rarely listend.

Finally I got a ticket, saying 100 in 55, and this cop said I'll get some info regarding suspended license for 30 days.

What should I do? fight? get a lawyer? plead guilty?

A couple months ago, one of my friend got a exact same ticket like me for going 103 in 55 at the same place, but different time. He just showed up at court by himself and the cop didn't show up, so he just asked nicely that he couln't afford ticket with some excuse. So the judge reduced it from $8xx to $ 3xx.

I'm so worried. so unlucky...it was just like 1 or 2 seconds if I drove 100 mph like the cop said even though I don't think I did. Did he really clock it?

What should I do? any advice would be appreciated.
Just thank him for not putting you behind bars for running 100 mph, and still having your car not impounded.

Pay up, slow down, Move on in life.

Next time, being behind a truck for 3-4 mintues really isnt THAT bad.

Not worth a lawyer IMO. Just makes you look like you did something wrong and trying to get out of it.

Do I want to sound like your mom? No.

Have I been in the same situation? Yes. 2 tickets before 18 years of age in Ohio is automatic 90 day suspension. Did it, moved on.

Lesson learned?.... somewhat.

Kinda ran from the cops goin 150 racing a new GTO. Shhhhh....

I just had my court date a few weeks ago:
read my thread:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=ticket+court

whatever you do, do NOT plead guilty, and keep pushing that trial date as far back as you can. If you can manage to push it back 6+ months chances are the officer won't show up. And if the officer does not show up, theres no chance that you can get convicted.

If I were you, I would go to that court tomorrow and I would watch some similar cases. You can learn what to do with out hiring a lawyer. If you don't have time, you better hire a lawyer.

he cant clock a speed while he is driving the opposite direction. therefore, all he can give you is "excessive speed". im not sure what the penalty is but i knwo its not to bad, because, technically he has no documentation of u speeding, it was a judgement call

How is it no help? If you dont speed I guarantee you wont get a speeding ticket agin. I have made plenty of mistakes and gotten plenty of tickets in the past but I know realize its just not worth the time, the effort and the money it costs. If I feel like speeding ill go to the track and auto-x. I dont want to sound like your MOM but trust me its not worth it. This is coming from somebody who knows because if paid thousands of dollars buy just being stupid.
