So I ended up giving my SA and CA gift cards to Starbucks despite deferring opinions. I felt like this was a safe move in the event they may be recovering alcoholics. I also gave a perfect rating for their survey and called BMW Corporate and left feedback for their dealership. In the end, while it wasn't necessary, the fact that they were very appreciative made it worth it to me.

The person I tip is the service guy if you find one you like. At least for me it has paid off in spades. These guys get nothing from any transactions you have with them otherwise.

What do you suppose a sales person and a service person make at a typical BMW shop?

I have no idea.

Typically $100k/year. That's for both SA's and CA's. BMW is a high volume, high gross vehicle so the salaries on average are much higher than say a GM salesman or so.

I just give my gratitude and a survey with top marks. Not to be overly harsh, but these are professionals that are doing the expected job.

If my guy/gal went above and beyond I do refer them to everyone I know.

Regardless of the professional sales nature of the transaction, we gave our sales guy a $50 coffee card (Philz - CA) for providing outstanding customer service. Being on the younger side, dealers were often overly aggressive, condescending or even flat out ignored us.

He saved us a few $1000 and even if he is still making money, what's $50 to maintain a working relationship.
