My only FedEx rant is that he always comes at the VERY end of the day. This is fine because I work all day, but I would rather he come in the morning. First world.

Yep, and I am not joking, 4 thousand dollars was not an easy pill to swallow. And based on principle, it's so wrong--the package can be tracked all the way to Dallas, TX, then it simply disappeared. Meaning, there is tracking to show they had possession of the box all the way to Dallas.

I'll just say it again, if it's worth anything at all to you, take the package to a location or UPS store, and don't feel shy about asking for a receipt. When junk is picked up in an office, it becomes a he said/she said if something is lost, because the driver doesn't scan everything in front of you.

Also, on a personal level, both UPS and FedEx leave things out in the rain on residential deliveries--I had a 24" LED soaked. There was a time, seriously, when they used to put things into plastic bags if it were pouring rain or rain. So now, even rockauto requires a signature maybe over $100--no lie, my air filters, oil filters, struts for the Lexus totaling $191 required a signature. Since they have excellent customer service, this protects them from eating the weather damaged auto parts if UPS/FedEx f***s up.

I feel for you. I was PISSED about my 30$, on principle. Also, I was in college at the time so it was a reasonable sum of money for me at the time. I can't imagine how I would have felt if it was in the thousands (even today).

I agree, shipping services have really gone downhill as things have gotten more competitive for lightning fast delivery - all other elements have gone down the drain. Conversion to online shopping from brick and mortar has also seen a huge increase in package theft (both inside and outside jobs) thanks to, like your example, expensive things being inside these packages.

Just gotta be smart and protect yourself.

It's not just Fed-ex

I ordered a handmade copper sink from Mexico, shipped UPS and this is how it arrives. Notice the footprint next to the sticker on the box that says don't accept if the package is damaged. The idiot delivery guy just tosses it in my driveway, and I point out the damage and the guy shrugs his shoulders, gets in his shitbrown truck and drives away....WTF?

If this were 10 years ago, you'd know I was making this up. But it's 2016, and I'm not.

I ordered some tools from eBay, and my wife was in the dining room, and saw a box fly over the hedges and onto the walk. She gets up and looks, and a USPS truck starts up and drives away. Nothing was broken or anything, they were tools and properly wrapped. But where's the integrity?

That's a good point, so maybe it's not a lack of integrity, it's that the conditions are harsh on the driver as far as taking any extra time on a delivery....
