Group worldwide sales for 2006 were 1.374 million cars. I don't have 2007 figures, but they are higher, according to press reports. I don't know what the ferrari guy is smoking.

Ja, that post struck me as just a bit odd. Of course there would be fewer Toyotas on the road but....

The terms are synonymous but most commonly you discharge or disembark passengers, you offload cargo.

Anyone has any updates to what exactly happened there? Were those cars damaged during the transport (in sea) or at t he port?

No announcements from BMW yet???

Were all those damaged BMWs on one level or on multiple ones?

I know, I know...a lot of questions...

I'm guessing a wave knocked it into the dock or it just came in too fast.

Either way, sucks for those M3s!!! OUCH...I'm pretty sure my car was on the courage on the way back from germany...glad that was last year

It was because of the bad storm in the Atlantic ocean

If it makes you feel better, it is BMW's policy that you must sign the BMW damage disclosure statement before purchasing any of these vehicles. Though, I still wouldn't expect a discount on a M3. However, the vehicles damaged were destined for auto shows, the performance center outside of Greenville, SC and some Eastern and Central region dealerships. As for the european delivery customers, you get the few thousand bucks less to buy it over there. This is a risk associated with the discount. On a standard order, no one can possibly force you to take a car that's damaged so there should be no worries there. The only thing that is buyer beware is used cars and I'm sure most dealerships wouldn't touch any BMW that's a beat up as some of those. Lightly damaged vehicles are usually scratched and light dents. Typically, you won't find vehicles that are collapsed with BMW. That's why they use the 4 stage quality assurance. Inspect at the plant, German port, American port, dealer.

Bronco

I have a 650i convert that I was worried about

My salesman said all cars intended for SE go to Charleston, SC and then to VPC at Greer, SC

I would expect your car was not on that ship since you are in Atlanta and would assume it will have Charleston, SC port delivery

BTW my car was held from the trucking company for a 1' to 3" scratch that was repainted at the VPC

Garage List
it also reminds me of this:
http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/27/c...mazdas-aboard/

anyways, it happens.. and more often than people think...
just cuz it is lashed and secured doesn't mean it can take anything that is shot at it..

the vessel probably experienced a lot of roll and the lashing wasnt done right, cars got unlashed, slid, and hit other cars....

that's what I'd assume happened..

The official story is that the cars were damaged at sea....but interesting that the first story was that the ship tipped in port.
