Radar and Laser Forum

Why don't we create a Radar and Laser forum on this board. It seems the dedicated forums for these topics are not very good and generally not populated with many people who own quality automobiles.

The Bimmerpost version can be for BMW owners and perhaps attract those who also own Porsche and Mercedes (in same way that the M5 versus) board has a lot of broader car enthusiasts on it.

Good idea.
I need info on Valentine 1 mounts, and scanner usefulness and recommendations.

Cool. We have so much stuff already on Bimmerpost we can combine it in one place in a structured way.

valentine is nice but the escort radar detectors are better, as far as laser, well there is only one out there that will defeet the dragons eye, and that is antilaser priority.. no other defuser can stop this gun.. the laser interceptor is next best, then the blinder there you go... 500 for the escort redline max, and 600 for the a.l.p. install around 3 to 5 hundered, so plan on leaving your car at the electronics store for the day, and ask to meet your installer, if his underwear are showing in the back, request a different guy.. lol...

Agreed! I'm going through the spec phase of what's going into my F80 right now. How are you liking the ALP + NR setup after having it a few months now?

Any truth to the rumors that it's got a very poor radar range from the NR as a tradeoff for excellent BSM filtering? I'm reading some reviews saying the customers are ending up basically on top of the LEO before the radar trips a warning.

Thanks for your input in advance. At the moment, I'm looking at an ALP 3 front head + front NR antenna install, and trying to determine whether I should go STiR instead of NR.

Stinger VIP beat dragon eye as well and is the BEST performing/rated radar detector with everyone who tests it. It is also the most expensive system you can get but you get what you pay for.

I had my installed in June and it's absolutely fantastic!

@AIRPOWER I want(ed) a Stinger VIP as well. But having heard at my dealership about another client being pulled over by a lasergunning(Is that a word?) police officer. Lasergun got jammed by Stinger VIP while client was driving within limits(70kmh @ 70kmh zone) , not speeding at all. So police pulled him over because gun was jammed.

So...Car was confiscated for a few hours and he was kept at the police office for 3 hours. He can expect a fine off course BUT Stinger knows this case now, so there is a lawsuit and Stinger is paying the lawsuit afaik. Next thing is: going to wait what the judges will say about this in a couple of weeks. I'lll keep you posted.

I see you have Dutch diplomatic plates which should mean you're immune for speeding/parking tickets etc?

Cheers
Robin

Robin,

Thanks for the info. I got the Stinger VIP because I have the car back here in the states. When I was in the NL, yes the CD plates was all I needed but I have regular plates back here in the USA.

IS this a US car with Dutch license plates? How did you pull that off?

It is a US spec car that I ordered when I was in The Netherlands. I lived there for a couple years and now I'm back. I kept the front plate from Holland on the car.

I have Al Priority combined with Beltronics sti-r plus as stealth.pilot advices me back in 2014 and never got pulled over (thanks god), but Sti-R plus has a lot of false alerts and it's very annoying! My lease is up soon and planing to get cpo M car or CPO P car, what it is the best radar detector so far? I don't like those without own display and Stinger VIP has huge screen that also ?, i like clean stock look hate when something hangs on my windshield or sticks out.

Some pix from my installation.
