Portable car lifts

Looks like I'm finally getting a garage and tired of doing all the work on my cars (92 mr2-t and 2008 335i) on jack stands. any one have experience with either quickjack https://www.quickjack.com/car-lift-s...-car-lift.html
or EZ car lift http://www.ezcarlift.com/
the quick jack is like $500 cheaper but only 20" vs 26" 26" for the EZ. It be nice when putting the motor back in my mr2 again to have even a 20" lift.

I think the biggest issue is ceiling height. My dad wanted to get a lift to double his parking spaces. He had 5 Corvettes and a 2 car garage. Ultimately his ceiling was too low to allow 2 stacked cars. I would call the manufacturer and see what their recommended minimum height is.

Between the two, the Quickjack looks like the superior product to me. ezcarlift is more expensive and doesn't even include the "drill" you use to operate it, although I guess that makes it a little more portable.

About a year ago, bought a portable 2 post lift called a MaxJax by Danmar. Supposed to be a BendPak design built in China. Individual posts that bolt to the concrete floor, 6000 lb capacity. Was a little skeptical, but so far has been just a fantastic tool. A little pricier at around $2000, but its a real hydraulic lift. Made for lower ceilings, it only raises about 4 ft, but can easily work on roller stools underneath.

That's actually the same price as the EZ car lift.

Edit:
Danmar also has a lift similiar to the two posted by the OP, but better lift height:

I have the quickjack due to a low ceiling height. It's great for what it is but you're really limited to what you can do under the car.

If I had the height to stack two cars, I'd get maxjax.

After looking at the other products, I think I'm going with this one:

http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/At...e-Scissor-Lift

I like the fact that it's portable and don't have to bolt it down. You can even move it to another part of your driveway and/or street if needed.

Of the two in the first post, I'd go with the Quick Jack. But, how is that realistically any different in workable space than a good set of jack stands? I get it is faster to put up, but it only takes me ~10 mins to put a car up on jack stands.

I totally agree. That's a lot of money for not much height. That's why I feel a scissor jack is a better alternative if you can't get a 2 post or 4 post lift in your garage.

I bought some hydraulic skates from Greg Smith several years ago and the quality was superior to the other ones I looked at....plus great customer service .

I've had that lift for many years now and it has lasted very well.
Don't get too excited about portability though, it's pretty heavy duty.
Also, you will need ramps of some sort so that you can drive over it.
The floor also needs to be reasonably level.

I now have built in ramps, which have worked out great.
I also cut steel plates into the floor for the rollers to run on.
Over time it wears down the concrete.

I have the ex car lift. Works great but slow and can't use on my x5d due to it being fat pig. Would have gotten something else but only paid 500 so went for it

how are the scissor style jacks as far as working on say the transmission or exhaust mid-pipes? I would think that could be a real draw back to that style lift. as some of said I may just save the cash and buy a nice jack and call it a day but putting the motor in my 2 was a pita last time I did it with jacks, jack stands and a hoist cause its easiest done by lowering the car onto the engine. also like to be able to do "normal" maintenance easier on the e90

Better than you would think.
You get used to working in the center.
It works pretty well for exhaust because the cross frames help to support it.

+2, very nice! What are the max lift point dimensions? I've heard some people have issues reaching lift points on larger cars with these.

Also, has anyone considered the harbor freight unit? It can be had pretty cheap with coupons.

http://www.harborfreight.com/6000-lb...ift-91315.html

I really want to buy one of these, I'm just concerned it won't work for me once I upgrade my 3 series to a bigger family car. Any input is appreciated!

.....
Correct, the awing arms can be a limiting factor.
However, there are different length arms available when ordering.
