I haven't been down there for 3 years so things might have changed, but the group all rides (80% or more) suzuki SV650's and the group at least was pretty tame and kick back. the biggest pack I was in with them was maybe 30-40 bikes, usually it was more like 7-10 bikes. More than likely not the same group, they were pretty mature for a sportbike crew......

yeah, remembering it a bit better it's a 4 day deal, with first day in the classroom learning basics (like really really basics, like where the brake controls are and how turn signals are actuated, and how to shift)

the next day is in a parking lot riding (at very low speeds 1st gear only)

Then there's some more classroom, and some more riding and it all ends with a riding skills test (which counts for your riding test you'd otherwise have to do at the dmv, with the dreaded riding in a circle)

I've always wanted a bike, but when you think about all of the qualities that go along w/ transportation, and safety comes into play, all of the sudden this option doesn't look soo good.

So, all I have to do is take the MSF course, and I get my M license?

Been wanting to schedule one the local MSF courses, they are on offer at the local NoVa community college...5 minutes from my place. The only problem is placement...the courses are very popular (and fill up fast) and you literally have to line up in the early morning to register....and there are not enough classes available. Also you need to have your own gloves and helmets (possibly leathers)...

Shim: are you interested...??

pass the class, and then pass the written test at the DMV and then you're a fully licensed biker

What's on the written test? I thought you only took the driver's license written exam, if you didn't have a driver's license.

Take the motorcycle safe course and see if motorcycle riding is for you.

It's Thrusday night class, Friday night class, Saturday class and riding and Sunday class and riding.

It's a lot of fun and makes you more aware of motorcycle riders around you and also make you a better car driver.

It was the best $50 I've ever spent.

My wife took the course, got her license, but never got a bike.

It just wasn't for her, but she still has her motorcycle license.

I LOVE motorcycle riding (Harley Low Rider) and have ridden over 120,000 miles without an accident of any kind.

Not that I'm aware of.

I took the course in Virginia and my wife took the course in Maryland and we both paid $50.

it's like your basic written drivers test, about basic rules of the road and motorcycle specific questions

not too hard, and they prep you for it pretty well in the classroom during MSF

in CA it's a manditory to take the MSF class if you're under 21 so it's just $75, but if you're over 21 is was $225 or something
