2018 Audi S4 Undercuts Mercedes-AMG C43 At $50,900

Quote:
Audi has released pricing details for the 2018 S4 confirming that it will cost slightly less than the Mercedes-AMG C43.

To pick up the entry-level Premium Plus S4, American buyers will have to part ways with at least $50,900 excluding the $975 destination fee. This makes the S4 a little more affordable than the C43 which starts at $52,000.

Prices for the high-spec 2018 Audi S4 Prestige meanwhile start at $55,800 but even the base model comes loaded with features as standard.

Among these are LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights, auto-dimming wing mirrors, heated, eight-way power front seats with memory support for the driver and three-zone automatic climate control with a digital display for rear passengers. The S4 also includes Audi’s MMI system that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

Some of the optional extras include a Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system, dual pane acoustic glass for the front side windows, Audi’s virtual cockpit, adaptive cruise control with stop & go and traffic jam assist.

Beneath the skin, all U.S.-spec 2018 S4 models feature a 3.0-liter TFSI V6 engine delivering 354 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That allows for a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of just 4.4 seconds.

I always liked the S4 but this new generation looks so plain. It looks too much like a base A4.

Is the engine still mounted in front of the tires or did they get around to fixing that?

Still pretty much completely in front of the shock towers, for all your understeering pleasures!

They've really never been too drastically different from the A4. The RS is where you would get wider fenders (a la M3), but this is really a 335/340 competitor, rather than an M3 fighter.

Unfortunately when I look at that S4 I think it looks like a Jetta...even in person, when I saw one at the autoshow, it didn't impress me.

Since Audi lost Scheyer and Donckerwolke, they've just mailed it in (and made the pooping dog A7.)

For some reason this new one looks especially plain. This older version looked nicer IMO.

I'd probably buy one of these over a BMW or MB. I like the outgoing model better, though.

Meh, I'll take a smog machine over a taxi. At least Audi occasionally offers a manual.

It's not much better over here. And (not that I care) but at least Audi offers awd and three pedals, something BMW seems to be quickly doing away with.

Of course awd fixes Audis and mostly messes up BMW's, but this was more of an issue when BMW's still had steering feel.

Right, but currently no manual in the S5, S3, S4 or RS3 and TTRS.

To be clear, for the US. The EU can get most of those.

I was debating waiting for this but it took so damn long to arrive here, and as other posters have said it looks just like the base A4, that I went with a baby beemer instead.

If they ever rerelease the s4 avant here I'd be interested in it as a nice doggomobile.
