Hybrid service vehicles - what is the world coming to?
Route 66 in Northern Virginia. Friday moring. No traffic. On the big scooter. Rolling the HOV lane and having a ball. Slow poke holding up the flow. Go around. Blast by a deep red Ford Fusion Hybrid. He starts to keep pace with me. Hummm... I slow down a bit, still 10 over or so. He gets near. I take a closer look...
White strobes on each side of the rear plate (those aren't factory ) . Little stub high-frequency radio antenna on the decklid. Didn't take much more time to investigate... didn't get a chance to see if strobes were in the grill or at the windshield headliner. Really, we've got to the point that law enforcement is using Fusion Hybrids as unmarked... WTF

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Welcome to the DMV...
I've seen an undercover black, lifted Ford F-150 with stickers on it in the Baltimore 695 area. These police departments seriously have nothing better to do. |

Fairfax county got a bunch of those. There's a silver one that seems to frequent the area around Burke in the mornings. Did you actually get pulled over? I wasnt sure if they're actual unmarked cars or if they're using them for other duties besides traffic.

I would have less of an issue with getting a speeding ticket if the penalty was only cash, no points or insurance penalty. But everyone has to bend you over. I think if you cause an accident or driving crazy, then it's a different story. But let's not criminalize someone if they aren't causing issues. I mean we're starting to do that with marijuana smokers lol.
We say we don't have enough police to fight violent crime, but I think we do if we redirect traffic cops to go after real crime. Its kind of like a self licking ice cream cone. We hire cops to generate revenue which pays their salaries. If we did less enforcement we wouldn't need as many police, therefore need as much revenue .....I realize it's not as clear cut as that since you're feeding an industry: police, courts, lawyers, insurance etc etc. it's all made up IMO. |

Here they can pretty much have any car as long as its 4 doors. 4 runners, camry, altima, chargers, g37s etc etc. Cops use their personal cars here for service and get paid a stipend to do so. Way more common to see a non marked cop car here than a traditional black and white.

SAPD has one or multiple of the following completely unmarked units that are fully or very well equipped: G35 coupe, G37 coupe, Camaro SS. SRT Challenger, SRT Charger, Mustang GT 5.0 (the last and most recent platforms), Impala, Malibu, Tahoe (old and new body style\generation\platform), Explorer (last and current body style\generation\platform), and Edge EcoBoost. Surprisingly haven't seen any lifted trucks, yet. Very strange considering my location.
