I still don't think the battery technology is going to advance that much anytime soon. I know there has been great improvements over the last few years but the reality is that the battery technology is only going to get so much better but the range anxiety and speed of charging are big hurtles to overcome. Smart phones and electronic devices have gotten much better on battery life but I suspect that has as much to do with operating systems etc that put less drain on the battery as it has to do with improved battery technology.

EV's technology can improve with respect to computers and how much energy they will draw, less draw using LED lighting etc. but I don't see a way around moving the mass of the vehicle and running systems like HVAC. I'm not going to buy an EV anytime soon and would be surprised if I own one in my lifetime.

Using the words "solid state" in this context is stupid, and misleading.
Over the last 50-60 years, the term has been applied to electronics that use semi-conductors (ie, chips). IEEE should be having fits.
