Powdercoating wheels in NJ
Hi all -
I tried searching but so many threads come up. A coworker just picked up a Jag F Pace and wants to get the wheels done black. Any suggestions in Central NJ? I found a guy Coast 2 Coast, says they can be done in one day, he has the ovens on premise and has been in business 20 years. If no feedback for NJ, I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has done their wheels regarding price and how long it took. Thanks in advance. Laura |

You're MUCH better off painting the wheels instead of powdercoating them.
If your powdercoater isn't using the special, low-temp powdercoating, they could compromise the structural integrity of the whee; (makes it weak when it's baked at too high a temperature). I had posted a similar response a while back and was ridiculed for it, until the owner of HRE wheels chimed in and said the exact same thing I did. He did say there are low-temp powdercoatings and that's what HRE uses. I've had three sets of wheels painted recently. They have all lasted without any issues.

Tracked and daily-ed powder coated wheels on my M Coupe for 120k miles with zero issues. I've seen laser heat guns show track wheel temps higher than even the hottest powder coat kilns can go. You'll be fine.
Worth noting that I have powder coated bicycles too and use chrome polish on them. Finish is absurdly strong and nearly abuse proof. |

I continue to have great experience with powder coating. I'm in Cincinnati and they refurbish the rims and powder coat. I had these 19s I got off eBay for my winter rims done for $450 total. They look awesome. Went with a brown with a satin matte finish. Find a reputable shop that does nothing but powder coating is my advice. This is an art.
