Question Do I need double/single top plate for bearing wall or just beam?

Hi, Im removing part of bearing wall , see the pic attached. Question is do I need the double top plate or I can just use bigger beam ? I will use LVL either two 2x4 top plate regular KD + two sandwiched LVL 2x8 or I can use only beam of two LVL 2x10's ? I have to remove or replace the existing top plate - termites had a lunch . Thanks in advance.

Your codes may vary, but in FL your would still be required to have a double top plate.
