If true, it is going to be interesting to see if they keep the redline relatively high. Ferrari’s turbocharged V8 revs to 8000 RPM or so, which is high for a turnocharged engine, but probably helps keep some of the character of the old naturally aspirated engine. McLaren’s revs even higher, something like 8400 RPM. Even the S55 has a high revving character at 7600 RPM especially when you compare it to other non-super-car turbocharged engines which rarely go above 7000 RPM.
This would also help distinguish the engine character from the 911 GTS and Turbo which will bracket it in the lineup. Obviously it will differ from those cars in many other ways too, but the engine has traditionall been one of the traits of the GT3 that really helps set it apart from a “normal” 911. |
