I will never buy a used car

I know this thread has had some horror stories of even buying new cars. I won't buy a used car ever. I don't care about the excess depreciation blah blah. I don't trust car fax or dealers, or really anyone with a conflict of interest.

The new car route gives you better odds.

As if new cars are not repaired at port and you never find out about it.

You may be surprised at the amount of new cars that are damaged on boats, in the shipping yard, or at the dealer. There's a decent amount of new cars that have been painted/repaired.

Enjoy your rapid depreciation though!

I am not necessarily saying a salesman will lie. They just wouldn’t have the persoal history of the vehicle.

Consider this post for instance. The Carfax did not show an accident report at the time of sale so how would the salesman know? While the dealership repair shop might be able to determine if it was, we don’t know if the salesperson knew. If you buy from an individual, they know. I realize that doesn’t prevent them from lying but does factor out the lack of knowledge

I will in good health. I wasn't being critical of those who buy pre-owned. I simply explained my choice.

Logged on after the weekend and was somewhat surprised a few people seemed offended that I prefer new cars to pre-owned and don't care about the resulting depreciation. Almost as if I attacked their precious values systems.

Guys. I wasn't.

I'm with yah, especially with cars like these, I'd rather buy/lease new for a number of reasons.

A straight up commuter or work car, SUV/truck I don't mind looking at used.

To each their own as they say.

I'm not sure if you were referring to my good self, but if you were, I just want to clarify a few things: I'm not offended you prefer new cars to preowned - if you have the money to spend, then why not? I also prefer new cars than to preowned, it's just I can't justify that amount of money on a new M4... I'd love to be in the position where I could though.

I just found it strange your statement "The new car route gives you better odds."

You mean the odds that it's more reliable? Of course a new car is.. it's got a warranty for example.

No, only reasonable thing I can take from your sentence is that you mean you get better odds with your money, or more bang for the buck?

But you don't... with a new car M4 you'll go from approx. 70k to 35k over 3 years. With a used car you'll go from 35k to maybe high teens (?) over another 3 years. It's likely, but not certain you'll have no major issues.

So I think the used car route gives you better odds, that's all.

New cars bring no rattles (questionable on this forum though!! ) warranties and peace of mind. You always pay for peace of mind
