Question Help me buy a new PC monitor

I'm lost in the sea of options here, looking for something that can solidly dual-purpose gaming and photo editing in the sub-$500USD range.

Preferred specs include:
  • 27"
  • 75-144hz
  • 1ms or near to it
  • G-Sync would be great but not needed
  • 1440p
  • Solid color accuracy and brightness

Let me know what you use, why you love/hate it, or if you have any other suggestions.

This is what I have. It’s been pretty great so far.

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell...or-accessories

It’s a little over 500 but I got mine on sale for around 500. If you look around you may be able to find a deal.

edit: its only 440 on amazon

Been very happy with my Predator monitor. If you can find a good deal on it, I would jump on it.

TN panel on the Dell for that price is terrible imo. IPS is the way to go.

I recently upgraded to 34 Ultrawide Alienware AW3418DW (3440x1440). I had an 34 Dell (3415) before.

I highly recommend this screen. Add a few hundred dollars to your budget and look for a sale. You will not regret it if you spend a decent amount of time on the computer.

Not sure how I feel about it for the price, how's the color accuracy?

I'm sure I'd love one but haven't seen one in my price range yet

IPS even for gaming? I know it's the better move for photo editing

I'm not going to nearly double my budget lol I put a dollar figure in there for a reason

Are you planning on upgrading anytime soon? The reason I ask is because it takes quite a bit of GPU horsepower to push a 1440p at 120hz let alone 144hz. While G-Sync will help, you might be buying more monitor than your system can handle.

But yes definitely IPS for gaming or VA if you want a bit more response time but definitely not TN.

Ok good to know and yes I'm planning to do a full system rebuild to 20-series soon so that's not much of concern.

This meets all of your preferred specs. I bought it almost a year ago to the day, and it has been fantastic. There are a lot of youtube videos you can watch about it as well.

These are contradictory requirements. You can't get a 144Hz 1ms monitor with good color accuracy and brightness. I researched this for my son earlier this year. I don't buy much into the 1ms hype so if I was buying for myself, I would have bought the fastest IPS monitor. We bought a 1ms monitor and the color reproduction and black level were much worse than my Samsung TV I bought at least 5 years ago. My son was playing his XBOX One games (Destiny, Fort Nite) on that TV just fine before he decided to switch to PC gaming.

IPS is the way to go as someone mentioned above. I play 1440p overclocked to 165hz with my GTX1080.

If you plan to mount it to an arm or other mount, make sure it has VESA mounting. Many of the inexpensive sub-$300 27"+ monitors do not, or require a special bracket. I have 5 monitors here I bought before realizing I wanted to mount them. None have VESA holes...
