I'm a bit spoiled working in NYC and living in CT and I know good pizza is hard to find in many parts of the country. That said, New Haven has the best pizza in the country. Period. Even has its own wikipedia page. The stuff above looks like something from Pizza Hut.

Some notables:
Frank Pepes Pizzeria
Modern Apizza

A hyper-local favorite: Colony Grill
This!!! I grew up in New Haven and my dad lived 1 block over from Wooster St and went to school with Sal Consiglio (Sally's Apizza). Ate at Pepe's and Sally's about 3-4 times a week, it's truly the best.

I first tried Marcos about 8 years ago and it's just another chain pizza spot. Don't confuse "different" or "new" with "better."

For all the pizza connoisseurs out there like myself, Da Michele makes the best pizza on this planet. http://www.damichele.net

Why chain pizza instead of a good old fashioned neighborhood pizzeria?

This is the problem nowadays. People like such shitty shit that we had to invent terms like "craft [food]" to describe the way food should be. And then people who reject the shit are labeled as snobs.

No, we're not snobs, you're just uncultured.

Unfortunately there aren't good ones everywhere. So you are stuck with what is available or make your own, which is the best alternative to get exactly what you want IMO.

I guess I must be jaded from living in an area with a large number of people of Italian heritage who love to open pizzerias. I've never really thought that "family owned" would not be everywhere, but it makes sense. Some of them are are really good, and some bad, but when you find the right one you know it. I guess it goes that way for chains too. I'll confess to loving a slice of Domino's sausage pizza now and then tho.

Dominoes is my favorite chain. I used to like Papa Johns, but they're horrible now.

I also grew up eating great pizza. Probably what I miss most about Rhode Island, aside from being anywhere in 20 minutes max. Nothing like Caserta's Pizza in South Florida although there are some edible places. I'll give Marco's a try when I'm in the area, but hate Domino's / Pizza Hut / Papa John's and their reflux-inducing offerings.

I didn't realize it either until I started traveling around the country more but mom & pop Italian pizza joints are extremely sparse outside the northeast. A good, genuine deli also seems rare.

They opened up a store in my neighborhood and passed out coupons for free pizzas. The intention was that after you tried their pizza, you would never go to any other chains. I tried them out and tossed the other coupon. Lacked taste in my opinion.

Now I'm not saying it's the "world's greatest". BUT... For a "Pizza Chain", it is easily the tastiest I have ever had. A few things that set them apart from Papa Johns, Dominos, etc: The sauce is not overly sweet or tangy. And the crust is simply incredible! Crunchy on the outside and pillow soft on the inside.

Put it this way... They opened a few weeks ago, and between me and my 2 boys, we've devoured at least 10 - 12 pies!

My favorite: Double Pepperoni with Beef & Breakfast Bacon!

I had a knee dislocation 3 months ago just now being able to workout again and gained 10lbs In fat and lost 15lbs in muscle from not being able to move and I’m down 5 lbs in fat and I’m 2 weeks in on my diet don’t do this to me

Decided to give it a try tonight for the first time, being that it is very hard to find good pizza here in Fl. I’m personally not a fan. I found it to be worse than dominos, which I also find terrible. Taste and consistency was all wrong. I miss NY pizzarias.
I’d rather have a Red Baron pizza from the frozen section.
