BMW Sales Up 6% in North America For September 2019

BMW of North America Reports September 2019 U.S. Sales.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 1, 2019… BMW brand sales totaled 27,467 vehicles in September 2019, an increase of 6.0 percent over the 25,908 vehicles sold in September 2018. Year-to-date, BMW brand sales in the U.S. are up 3.3 percent.

“With September’s results, we have now achieved positive sales growth in 24 of the past 25 months,” said Bernhard Kuhnt, president and CEO, BMW of North America. “We thank our customers for their continued confidence in our new products and look ahead to year-end, with a focus on maintaining the momentum that our dealer network has built with us over this time.”

BMW brand sales in September were once again driven primarily by the BMW X3 (5,943 vehicles) and BMW X5 (4,339 vehicles) Sports Activity Vehicles, as well as the all-new seventh generation BMW 3 Series sedan (4,303 vehicles).

BMW Group Electrified Vehicle Sales

Sales of BMW Group electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles decreased 52.5 percent in September 2019 vs. September 2018. Model changeover has limited the current BMW Group electrified lineup to six models including the new BMW 745e and the BMW i3, BMW i8 Coupe, BMW i8 Roadster, BMW 530e, and MINI Countryman plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Several new plug-in hybrid BMW models will arrive in 2020. The fully electric MINI Cooper SE will also arrive in 2020.

MINI Brand Sales

For September, MINI USA reported 3,505 vehicles sold, an increase of 1.3 percent from the 3,461 in the same month a year ago.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles

BMW Certified Pre-Owned sold 9,122 vehicles, a decrease of 7.5 percent from September 2018.
Total BMW Pre-Owned sold 19,756 vehicles, a decrease of 2.3 percent from September 2018.

MINI Pre-Owned Vehicles

MINI Certified Pre-Owned sold 913 vehicles, a decrease of 23.5 percent from September 2018.
Total MINI Pre-Owned sold 2,140 vehicles, a decrease of 22.8 percent from September 2018.

what's surprising is how almost every automaker is having declining sales for the past month, yet BMW isn't. I guess their refreshed lineup G01/G05/G06/G20 etc are helping a lot

look the table though, 3 series is down, X6 is down, jump up are from X3/X4/X5

Wow. Speaking as a retailer, 6% up on the month and 3.3% YTD are great results, in any consumer industry.

I've always wondered if these monthly sales posts include M vehicles. If not, why wouldn't they? Anyone know either way?

I'd wager a bet that they do include the m and options inside the framework of the base model frame. For example the 5 series probably includes the m5.

YTD is still -5.5 %
X3/ X5 / X7 overpassed considerably 3/ 5/ 7 series...

From other sources NA is the biggest M market and growing, hence the massive expansion of M products.

Tesla sales didn't meet goals and their stock took a hit. Even in the age of EVs we are seeing growth in petrol vehicles. Tesla needs to release the Model Y soon or continue to miss out on the action as the model x is too expensive for the mass market.

Comparing YTD 2018/2019 change between the TM3 and all the BMW passenger cars is interesting. The TM3 US sales have gone from 78k Jan-sept 2018 to 107.4k over that time in 2019.

It is expected that the TMY will cut at TM3 sales... but how will it impact the X1/2/3 sales? If the functionality is there in the TMY, BMW should be worried because the price cost might be lower.

Not bad. Benz is flat YTD.

Auto sales in NA are flat and stalled at 17m units per year, for the past several years. Growth in such an environment speaks to desirability of the product.

same thing for the X5, despite my issues I love mine. I want an M8 GC or M5 CS (upcoming model) next if I go with a sedan

I think BMW did a great job on the X3. My wife and I are new to the brand, and the experience so far is positive. YOY X3 sales suggest others agree that the X3 is worth buying.
