Issue using Amazon Echo Auto (Alexa) in my BMW
Anyone else got a Echo Auto for their BMW?
I got one the other day, and there is one issue that IMHO makes it unusable: When I say the wake word (Alexa), the car switches to Bluetooth input and the Amazon app on my phone takes over the connection. Alexa answers, but then the app keeps the Bluetooth connection ‘alive’ - the car never switches back to the music source I was listening to! I have to actually close the Alexa app for the phone to ‘release’ the Bluetooth connection. Just wondering if others have the same on their BMW’s or if there is a setting that I haven’t found yet? 2020 Z4, Apple iPhone. |

I’ve only had the Echo Auto a short time as well, and am still experimenting. 2015 X1, Bluetooth is more primitive. What worked so far is I connect the phone via USB to the car and the EA connects to my phone. I had trouble linking the EA to car Bluetooth directly. I seem to be able to switch between Alexa and Siri. I’ll keep playing with it as I get more time. The device seems less than perfect, but the 2015 X1 does have some quirks. Luckily the EA was only $25. Occasionally Alexa takes over and I can’t get Siri back. I did use it to turn a light on inside the house as I pulled up, so that’s working.

Thanks for reply. Sounds like there is a reason why they are sold ‘by invitation’ only at this time. Btw, routines in the Alexa app on phone can trigger based on location (e.g. turn on lights when this device comes home and turn back off after 15 minutes).

You can do the same with SIRI by pushing the steering wheel button. Best of all, it's BMW compatible for free.
I can ask SIRI in my car if the garage door is closed 1000 miles away. |

What version of iOS do you have? I lost the ability to summon Siri using my steering wheel... the only way I can use Siri in iOS 13 is with 'hey siri'. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing?? |
