All this America bashing, and you all are still free to do what you want and drive a fucking BMW. No place is perfect, but your pathetic lives could be far worse. Vote with your feet, pack up the family and move to Europe.

why should people leave their homes if they are unhappy about things they can't change? did you ever consider that complaints are made, not to insult and degrade, but rather to help guide improvements? you seem to be too narrow minded. you should do some traveling - it will give you a better perspective USA is not the only country where people have basic freedoms. to the contrary, Americans are quickly becoming some of the least 'free' people in the world. |

Shoulda just cruised around going 140 or something, there's always a cop in the road catching people speeding...
that way, you can tell him/her what happened. |

Me Too! 911 is an F'ing joke though. No offense to anyone but I think they hire a bunch of idiots over there. At least in IL!

Gotta be prepared to take care of yourself and be able to respond to trouble/danger on your own...
All the Police are good for is taking a memo after the fact. All the Unarmed, unprepared are little more than victims. Expecting the Police to be there to protect you or a loved on is a joke...

Do these response times prevent crime? No of course not, but the victims and those in accidents rarely have to wait more than 10 minutes or so from time of accident to 1st response. Some areas are better than others though, My wife crashed her motorcycle about a block from our home and she had a moto-officer on scene in about 60 seconds, EMT and Fire on scene in about 3 minutes. This is typical for most urban areas. Lots of drama queens want to make things sound much more dire than they are cause they listen to too much NPR and are used to being "victimized"... It's their role.

I work in public safety and deal with people who call 911 every day. Let me explain why you are on hold so long.
When you call 911 from a cell phone you get CHP. If you are in an area where you need local law enforcement, the CHP call taker will transfer you to the correct agency. Think about all the people calling 911 in the greater LA area. Then double it when you add all the crazy people that call 911 for no reason. The general public would be very surprised if they knew some of the reasons people call 911. Hope this helps people to understand the system a little bit |

No, I did not because there were bystanders on the sidewalk starring and looks to be walking towards her. I was still driving at a slow pace and waiting for the call to go through. In addition, she was hysterical and screaming on her phone, so I figured that she's probably ok... rather, frightened.

20min on hold with 911? We don't even have those waits during a tornado warning. I get mad when I call - generally off duty and I see a wreck - and the phone rings more than twice.
911 originated just north of me about an hour's drive. The first 911 call? Came in as a pregnant lady needing an ambulance. She was told to hang up and call the fire department. My how it's mission has changed... Quote:

+1 on the slow cell 911 response. i dialed 911 last summer to report a violent crime (got jumped), and was on hold the entire time that i was chasing ater the guys (not a good idea -- the chasing part). ended up flagging a passing police cruiser that was going somewhere else.
however, i was kinda interested by the '911' mode that my phone went into, i had to finally enter some crazy key combination to actually hang up the call. |
