MSDN has good articles.
WROX books are also very good.
It always helps to learn when you have an actual project that you are working on, otherwise it doesn't really mean much. Good luck!

I not sure what is difference between VB .NET vs ASP .NET advantages/dis of using one vs the other.

.net is basically a framework of extensions that microsoft has embedded in the windows OS.
