Polishing the Gloss Black Exterior
Hi All,
Are the gloss black exterior pieces around the window just black plastic or are they painted? I've never had gloss black plastic exterior pieces on a car, and I'm trying to polish the fine swirls out but not having much success. I've tried using carpro essence and sonax perfect finish on polishing pads and even a compounding pad very lightly, but it's not coming 100% out. More like 75%. I'm hesitant to try a microfiber pad or using much pressure on the polishing pad in case it's plastic. I'm worried it will mar easily if it's plastic. Has anyone polished these pieces out with success? |

I have had good success with the blue rupes foam pad and sonax perfect finish. Mild/light pressure. Essence doesn't have enough cut to get the job done IMO. I've also tried CarPro ultracut on the yellow rupes foam pad which seemed to work as well. Try a small area first just in case there is a difference in the plastics.

I"ve had success with Meguiar's M105 and M205 polishes. The 105 is strong enough to work on those surfaces by hand. I usually follow-up with 205 just because it's black and can show the smallest lines.
