You're missing the scarcity part.

Buying truck loads of toilet paper when theres a "shortage" of toilet paper just to sell it to your neighbor for double the price is "Buying to resell at a higher price" and also legal as far as I know. However I doubt few people wouldn't consider it a dick move.

For reasons completely outside of your control, which I presume was his point unless that decision (guess) was made in a conscience manner. I.e you got lucky. What if the decision went south? I think that was more so what he was getting at, and something to learn from (coming from a guy closer to your age).
