It's funny how the mind works, because I always like the LEFT but once I knew that they *intentionally* made the RIGHT for the higher floor, it got me thinking, hmmm...I still think that the LEFT is better but shouldn't the RIGHT be since they drew up a new design implying they improved upon it?

There are some aspects that are good w the RIGHT, e.g. don't need the master washroom to be that huge or its walk-in closet, so that space is transferred over to make the common area look more grand, and the laundry and foyer closet gets larger. However, I like a nice TV room and that RIGHT one is just bad, no matter where one tries to set up the TV.

I get why people choose the condo life. Our first house was a condo and it was great. But, once we moved into a single family home there was no turning back. I'd pick the one on the left if those were my only choices, but I'd look for a single family home within reasonable commute distance. A side benefit is you get your own garage, no home owners association rules, politics, or fees.

Have you checked the prices of houses compared to the condo? After you factor in the HOA fee, you might be surprised what you can get for the same money.

Left….I recently went from a single family home to a town house. At my age, closer to 60 than 50, and job/life it's been great. I do have a nice sized garage(though never big enough).

When I come home and see the snow shoveled/and/or lawn done I'm a happy camper. I jump on my bike, tinker with my car, whatever.

You can always just pay someone to do that stuff at your house though. I mean it's fine if you prefer living in a condo or townhouse, but not having to mow the grass or shovel snow or clean the pool etc are not necessarily reasons to not live in a house.

For example here in FL we have an HOA who will be on my ass if the grass is not cut etc, it's hot as fuck all the time and I don't have enough grass to justify having a riding mower nor do I have the space to keep one, so I pay someone to deal with it. He comes every week mows the lawn, deals with trimming bushes, making sure sprinklers work etc. Up at the NC house I actually enjoy cutting the grass with my riding mower and since there is no HOA there is no urgency to do stuff, I do it when I feel like it.

So I guess my point is even in a house you can do as much or as little as you want. My first place was a condo and I don't think I could ever go back.

Tx and also to others for the comparisons/concerns. For sure a detached house is many ppl's ultimate dream/goal and I understand esp if one has a big family and dogs running around. It's just my wife and I so we've been living a near-bachelor life all along, just don't want to deal w much hassle. It also depends on one's tolerances: for example in that 'where to put my dog's #2' thread, there are still lots of (even more?) inconsiderate, selfish and clueless ppl, and that would drive me insane arguing w & trying to prevent them, never mind trespassers cutting across my property, porch pirates, doorbell pranksters, increased vandalism/break-in risks, etc. Given these factors and more, we're pretty much condo-for-life. Anyway, that's something for another thread and would be an interesting discussion.

I 100% get it. For my age and life situation it's great. If it's 3am and want to leave for a month, I lock the door and I'm gone. May have a little to do with being single as well!

Lived there a year and a half and have never heard a peep from my neighbors. They are built to isolate the units. Mine is three levels right at 3000 sq ft. Now on the other hand , my old neighborhood would have nights were every dog in a five block radius would start their symphony howling.

Haha, reminds me of a couple of times I stayed at a hotel, next door just wouldn't quit w all that banging, then another time a couple just did it w the blinds wide open for everyone to see...I know we're on the top floor but still, doesn't mean there aren't other flats on the same level that can see into the rooms.

Left. If you like the right and the TV position is not good in the master, it is easy to have them move the wire placement during construction if it's not built yet. But I like the kitchen layout better on the left and the larger walk in closet.
