Happy for others if they love it, like it, or start to like it.
There is a difference with Chanel and the BMW cars he designed. G8x especially has lines that doesn't make sense, design cues from other brands as if he just took all of them and shoved it together in one car. The front grill isn't even the biggest offender, people just zoom in on it because it is the easiest thing to point out. This topic has been more or less discussed to death at this point.

History will judge the G8x cars for what they they probably will be known for. Great performance cars that is unfortunately heavy with a very esoteric design.

I still turn back every time I see a F8x, whether it is M3 or M4. I still flinch every time I see a G8x or the G22.

Edit: This is what Lexus has said about their front grille design grossing out American buyers.

The thing that gets me is that BMW has sold cars with different front ends for many yearss (MSport vs. non MSport). It could easily do the same thing with the Bugs Bunny grilles; similar to what Coca Cola did with classic coke. I am convinced that the reason BMW hasn't done it is that the response would be overwhelmingly in favor of the classic design and the designers are afraid of that result.

I dunno... Dukec and BMW seem pretty set on keeping it and expanding it to different model lines. They've already said they don't care what the customer thinks and that 20% approval rating was fine.

I'm glad they have finally acknowledged that. Not that I've really been in the market for a Lexus, but that grille would definitely keep me from getting one. BMW doesn't seem anywhere near acknowledging it.

To me, BMW's new design language is controversial just for the sake of being controversial. It's more of a "hey, look how different I am in an ugly way" more than a "hey, look how progressive and evolutionary my new design is."

The Chinese market loves big grills (I cannot lie). NA and Euro are going to buy no matter what, so getting that Chinese market is the goal. Yeah, maybe sacrifice a small percent in sales in NA, but then get a huge percent of market share in China.

I very much like the big grill having seen it in person. In fact, it is what inspired my interest in owning a BMW.

I say this not to invite argument or debate but to the BMW product managers who frequent this website. I like the grill as do many others. Please keep it.

I will just keep my older BMW's as I find the styling horrendous. Times change and styles change. For months it was all about the Bangle Butt and that has become accepted.

Will I be in the market for a new car soon.....no so It does not matter.

You are not alone.

I parked next to a new 4-series a while back, got to chatting with the owner. She had been a BMW user, but went to Mercedes. For some reason she went into the local dealer with a family member. She saw the 4-series in the showroom. Loved the 'new' look, bought it there and then.

When we read of new 4-series and M3/4 users getting more interest, positive comments and compliments, than for any BMW they've owned before, says something about the wider audience.

I’m a fan of the new G80, the proportions are still excellent and it’s a ripper to drive.

I have another year to go on a car that we are leasing. Will replace it with a BMW 4 series if they keep the current style.
