The World's best sounding drag race is a NHRA top-fuel... drag race. I had the opportunity one time to experience NHRA mechanics rebuild the top end of a dragster engine (replace the heads). They changed the heads in about 10 minutes. The five of them all walked away into the trailer and came back out a few mintues later all wearing gas masks and ear protection. It looked like a joke to us innocent bystanders...

Then with no warning, they lit off the motor. Holy effin' shit! The sound was so loud it was disorienting and the rapid conversion of oxygen to nitro-burned exhaust literally instantly voided the pit area of any type of breathable atmosphere. We bystanders scattered like ants. I lived to tell the story. Tinnitus is real...

That old Audi tuner car was simply amazing though.

For me personally, loud doesn't necessarily mean it sounds good. I love that LFA sound even though it's not the loudest car here, as it reminds me of my all time favorite sound - the haunting screams of the old F1 V10 motors.... the one where it's almost like screaming echos in the distance that you hear the car approaching before you see it. It doesn't send me scattering.... it gives me goosebumps.

Scattering was necessary to continue breathing. But sitting mid-track at a NHRA drag race is a piston symphony in its own right.

Those F1 V10's, what a fucking noise. God I miss proper engine noises in F1. Top Fuel is indeed the most visceral thing I have ever heard but drag racing is shitty in person, the amount of delays due to cars dropping oil on track is ridiculous.

Yesssssss absolutely. The funny thing is the regular pagani huayra doesn't sound good at all (unless you enjoy the sound of a vacuum cleaner). But the Huayra R... get rid of some turbos and it's fascinating what the engine underneath can sound like.
