I didn't have time yesterday to match specs, but when I saw this thread the Mach E came instantly to mind. Comparing the fastest Polestar 3 to the Mach E GT the specs are not compelling to favor it over the FoMoCo machine. I couldn't find the EPA interior volume for the Polestar 3, but the cargo volume with the rear seats folded gives a hint. Considering the price difference, maybe the Mach E's interior is a bit lower class, not sure at this point, but the two cars overall design, size and architecture are nearly the same, except the weight and the 60 time (big differences in both).

Note updated specs

If accurate, that ford can do it 1000lbs lighter (which is the approximate weight of a Tesla S) is a huge advantage. 4800lbs ain't light, but it also is within the realm of ICE cars on the road, so advantage Ford.

So, your post sent me to verify the GT's weight spec. I found Car and Driver's specs for the 2021 Mach E 4XGT that shows the weight at 5001 pounds and a 3.7 second time to 60 MPH. Small details that up the weight a bit and raise the 60 time, but still impressive for the Ford and at a $25K+ price advantage.

I think the Polestar 3 looks intriguing and a bit better conceived than the Mach E, but the Mach E is not a bad looking machine in my eye.

Yeah, I usually find that the weights given are often the lightest possible spec and tend to vary a few hundred from that. 800lbs is still significant. No matter, the M2 will soon be 5000lbs too.

400lbs of that is in the battery pack size alone, 111kwh vs 88kwh. Majority of other weight comes from dual clutch system in rear motor. Polestar can decouple front/rear motors, Mach E can not. Polestar has a more robust DC charging system, 250kw vs 150kw. Remaining weight will be from extra amenities Polestar provides because it is a luxury vehicle.

90% of the pars that make up a car come from china, so I don't see the problem.
In fact, I'm pretty sure that there isn't a car made in this millenium that didn't have parts made in China.
Even if electronics are from Bosch or Siemens, and the part says made in Germany or so, the resistors, capacitors transistors etc all come from China.
I admire the thing you try to achieve but in the end it's a facade.

New ev tax credit legislation will drastically change the amount of parts that come from China. China is consider a “foreign entity of concern”. Starting 2024 EV's that have a single battery pack component that was manufactured or assembled in China will not qualify for $7500 tax credit. Polestar will have a hell of a time in the US market, fighting for sales with no credits.

Well, if charging overnight at home the 250 vs. 150 is immaterial I would think. Again I spec'd the Mach E GT, which has an up-contented interior.

No hate for the Mach E GT, great ev actually. Just explaining why the Polestar would weigh 800lbs more. Along with what I said, the Polestar is also a larger vehicle.

I can't find the EPA interior volume data anywhere for the Polestar 3, which is necessary to determine the weight vs. size question. Ford states the EPA total volume for the Mustang Mach E @ 125 Cu.Ft. The fueleconomy.gov site shows 101 Cu.Ft. passenger and 24 Cu.Ft. cargo. I think the Polestar 3 and the E-Stang are very close in size: same wheelbase, the Polestar is just 6" longer and it's 10" wider, but that's counting mirror extension, so interior and luggage volume is the spec we need to make a judgement if the Polestar is actually heavier per volume than the E-Stang.

Can’t imagine paying $1500/momth for any “regular” car that doesn’t have anything special about it. I’m constantly amazed at what people spend on average run of the mill cars.

As far as the poll goes, I'm somewhere in the middle. I'm sure the vehicle is fine. I'm not that keen on the styling, but that's subjective. BIG MISS on price as far as I'm concerned: I think this shouldn't have been too far north of the Polestar 2 pricing, which starts at $48,400. Price this in the low/mid $50's to start and I'm listening. Hard NO at $80k or even $70k.

Price is nuts, add a few options and maybe some tax and boom 6 figures. Yeah screw that.
