Dealership Ordered Wrong Trim

Hey Guys, I was just looking through my ordered and noticed that the dealership has ordered the wrong trim for my 2024 BMW X5. I already have a VIN and am slated for production this week. Is there anyway they can get this fixed, since I will not want the car with the current trim they selected. I do have emails where I sent the trim that was not selected. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

Did they send you the finalized build sheet before the allocation locked? They can swap the trim at the dealer but they will need to be willing to eat the cost for parts and labor or you can order a new car.

Yes, and it has the trim that I wanted but wasn't selected by the sales rep. Is it too late for them to change the order since it's entered the production queue?

Yep, too late. Talk to them NOW about swapping the trim out for you, which is gonna cost them some big $$$. Only other option is to refuse the car and re-order. Sounds like you've got documentation showing it was their screwup, so hopefully they'll make it right without too much fuss. Good luck.

I totally agree, as long as you have the documentation that proves that they screwed up, they need to make it right!!!

If you have a VIN, it's too late. Let the dealership solve their problem, even if the easier path for them is to reorder the car and give you a loaner while you're waiting for it. Should not take too long. Could even be more rebates available next month.

Reading things like this makes me so pissed. Imagine buying a brand new car and not having it the way you like. Then I bet they're going to try to weasel themselves out of taking any responsibility whatsoever.

I agree, they are going to try to weasel out of it. I’m sure the salesman will simply say it’s too late and nothing can be done and will not offer any approach to correct the issue. If you meet any resistance immediately escalate this to the sales manager.

This is why when you order a car. My dealer prints out the order, and goes over it, line by line with you, and they put an X ________ and you sign. I almost ended up with black wheels when I ordered biColor, but, I found it on the printout, before I signed.

just to add onto this, they call you hypersensitive when you check up on these things...

like this isn't a fast food error, its a fucking car, and tough allocations to boot.

"oh no don't worry sir, we are a "m certified center" with free piss coffee and a "m expert" who is on his 15th different dealership and brand

Not surprised by this story. A LOT of clowns working at BMW dealerships, no knowledge of the product or ordering process. I'm very thankful for this forum

Which dealer?

I do the ordering for my store and unfortunately it happens. The builder itself looks like it was designed 20 years ago and isn’t always the easiest to navigate through. Trim and wheels are the most common thing missed. It’s paramount to take a very close look at the final build.

I spoke with the SA and they offered to either give me a credit or order me a new vehicle. I opted for a new vehicle with the correct trim, but was notified today that they submitted the new order but the Climate Comfort Package is not available anymore for the correct build. Now I'm stuck between waiting until it's available, ordering with the correct trim, but no comfort package, or take the first car with everything but the exact trim. I went in today to look at another x5 with the trim and interior color that was in the incorrect order and it didn't look bad.

They haven't said an exact amount. How much would you say is adequate for this type of error? This is my first time buying a BMW. If it helps I am paying cash for it.

That is a very difficult question to answer as a change in the trim you wanted and ordered might be very important to you but may not be as important to others who would just settle and accept it.

Rule number one in negotiating a situation like this is to ask the dealer how much they’re willing to offer first and then tell them you will think about it. Under no circumstances do you throw out a number in the beginning of this process and whatever they initially offer you is normally not going to be their final number and best offer. 😉
