BMW upholstery & trim best combo

I am ordering a 2024 BMW X7 xDrive40i in the Frozen Grey Metallic Color. I love light interiors, always having beige or white type leather seats, but I want to go with a color combo that’s attractive and desired since I switch cars every 2-3 years anyway and I want it to have good appeal to a new buyer too. I’m okay with most color combinations but hate black interiors so ruling that one out. I’m torn between the tartufo extended merino and ivory white extended merino. Also wondering which trim option goes best with both of these. Light colored gloss doesn’t bother me, bud dark colored gloss shows too much for finger prints so I won’t do that. Matte colors also appeal to me. If anyone has pictures of their color combinations, I’d love to see! May help me make a choice. With the tartufo- I’m thinking the anthracite-brown poplar Matte finish. With the Ivory White Merino, I’m leaning more towards the individual fine wood ash grain. Would love your inputs on your own choices!

Taste is a weird thing. And mine is no exception. I don’t buy or switch cars often. But when I do, the white, beige, red, yellow, coral interiors are a turn off. Even if the car is loaded with upgrades, in showroom condition and a killer price. I'm not saying I wouldn’t own one, but give me the choice between a subtle and a flashy interior, I’ll pick subtle.

Interesting! Thanks for your perspective.

Black is probably your safest bet, but I’m also not a huge fan as I feel it makes the interiors very cave like.

I used to buy cars with the safer color options for the reasons you mentioned about resale ease/value. I’ve since stopped doing that and started buying the stuff I like. If you’re going to own it for a few years, might as well get your preference. As long as it’s not something crazy extreme I think you’ll be fine.

I’ll tell you right up front I am a leather over vinyl snob. I won’t even consider vinyl on a 3er. If I was in the market for an X7 a vinyl interior (no matter what fancy name they give it and how much better it is today than in the past) would be an immediate deal killer.

I’m going no lines to agree with this as well. Thanks for the feedback.

Have you considered the Tartufo color in the merino leather?

I just switched my build to this actually, but the step down, the extended Tartufo. Do you happen to know if this color looks like this in person? The cognac is a little too orange for my liking now that I’ve had a chance to see it in person.

Another intriguing thing you'll encounter with F80s in general is that the Graphite Anthracite fabric/cloth offering is much more rare than the standard black or white M3 interior.

Though it doesn't seem to make a cloth-equipped car cost much more than a leather one, when the seats go up for sale by themselves on the forum, they sell for quite a bit more. That's one of the only instances where I'd shell out extra cash for a worse interior.

Also, shoutout to the guys doing the crazy Sao Paulo Yellow + blue interior, or Portimao/Tanzanite + Fiona Red interior. I'd never be able to live with that. But those specs sell just as well as standard black interiors too.

As for trim, I love the look of my F80's gloss carbon fiber but I hate the piano black accents. On top of that, I also dislike the M2's matte carbon fiber. Maybe the new Anthracite Aluminum Rhombicle will be enough of a texture but matte look to hide prints but not look too matte/flat.

No, I have not, you definitely should see it in person before ordering that color. From the pictures it looks extremely rich and classy.

Having the Tartufo in my X5, I love it! I think it'll go well with the Frozen Grey. It's definitely deeper and a richer color than Cognac (which I've seen in person and was in the running as one of my options). Looks more like a light baseball glove color. But I also believe the Ivory white will go really well since it's super neutral and will make the interior feel so much bigger. Keeping it clean is another thing though

I also think the fineline black wood trim or individual piano black finish would look really nice but is a fingerprint magnet. Any of the high-gloss trims would have fingerprints but the lighter color high-gloss trims would hide it a little better.

Another vote for the Tartufo. Goes great with Tanzanite II. Name: IMG_0966.jpg

My go-to is darker green exterior, medium -darker brown interior, copper-fineline, gray poplar, black, walnut or another dark rich wood. Just NOT piano black. Hate it. Not rhomboid/tetragon, steel mesh, or carbon fiber. Wood.

My favorite greens are Oxford Green II Metallic, Verde Zeltweg (Ferrari), Verde Hydra (Lambo), and Verde Ermes.

I currently have tartufo with carbon fiber trim in my M3, and Ivory/atlas grey with anthracite poplar trim in my X7. Previously I had Ivory with the individual ash grain silver trim in my X5. I would say the anthracite in my X7 is very subdued, whereas the individual ash grain trim in my X5 was pretty flashy. So just depends on what look you're going for. In terms of seat color, tartufo is very classy, but ivory gives the cabin a very open and airy feel. So in my mind, I wanted my SUV to have that big open and airy feel, whereas for my M3 I wanted something a bit sportier and classier with tartufo.

Make sure you sit in a vehicle that has the interior color you are selecting just to be sure you like it. Years ago, I took a car with a color I thought I was ok with, and in the end, I just didn't like it. So much so, that I had to sell it.

Wow these both look gorgeous. I did end up test driving one with tartufo merino today and I actually loved it so I went ahead and ordered it! Looking at your ivory, I wish id seen one with it there, it may have changed my mind but both options look great to me.

I've never been a fan of colorful interiors. I'm happy with black leather and carbon fiber as is the wife. It seems to show the least wear and requires the least amount of cleaning. Plus, it makes the interior darker, which when combined with tinted windows provides a little more privacy which is also a potential concern for some folks.
The only time I'd consider a light colored interior is in a convertible, and the one we has still has a mostly black interior...

I try to think of color combos as a whole, exterior + interior + trim. You can have a great looking interior combo that looks off with certain paint choices.

I totally agree with this approach, most especially when ordering a convertible! Not every interior color does justice to the exterior color and the trim is like adding icing on a cake. 👍🏻

Also I think that a black interior is boring and have never ordered a car with it. 👎🏻
