Putting car in "detailing" mode

Hi,

As the days get longer and weather gets warmer in northern hemisphere, it is time to start detailing again.

I wonder if throughout the years, someone has finally discovered how to put car's interior in to "detailing mode", so to speak. Every time I go over a capacitive touch button or an iDrive controller with a microfiber, the car wakes up, reacts to my (inadvertent) inputs and messes up all the settings. Short of disconnecting all the batteries, is there a way to disable car listening for those inputs? I haven't tried it, but I think even sending the power down command wont work as it will still listen for button inputs.

I've found if I leave the key on a bench in the garage, and not have it in my pocket, it's basically achieving what you are asking about. But if I've got it in my pocket, interesting things do happen, i.e. the locks will lock / unlock just with the water being sprayed on the car.

Might be different from one car to the next.

Yes, that does work for exterior comfort access sensors. Water has capacitance greater than air so if the key is in required proximity, doors will react. You can leave the key inside the car as well which will yield same result.

For interior buttons, this approach wont work. Car will wake up regardless whether the key is visible or not.

Garage List
Maybe try opening the doors and double press the lock button. That should set the alarm and disable interior motion sensors. Not sure if it'll accomplish what you're asking, but worth a try.

Wont work. You can try leave the key in house, then sit inside with windows opened, then lock the car with your phone and start to clean up interior.

That sounds like it might actually do the trick! I'll try it, thanks.

Update: Locking yourself in to car by phone with keys outside of range doesn't do it either.
