Yes CAD, but you can't just convert to USD. My counterparts in the US are making the same in USD or more.

Oh don't even get me started on that.... I will be sure to remind my kids when they're older that they prevented me from having a Ferrari in the garage.

Haha same! My wife does work as well (makes $110k) but housing prices here are stupid, and the three kids are all into competitive cheerleading, and dance, and this, and that. College will be around the corner (well 5 more years for the oldest), but I'm already starting to sweat over that expense as well. RS5/M3 money is all I'm comfortable spending right now unfortunately...or maybe fortunately the way the economy is.

I work in healthcare and make 90k a year, my wife is a VP in HR at a financial company and makes around 250k. My dad died in January and left each of his his 3 kids about 800k. I’m using about 55k of my inheritance for a down payment on an M340 xdrive. If it wasn’t for the inheritance I would never have thought about buying a BMW even though our household makes about 350k a year. Most of our salary goes to investments. Also our oldest child is starting college in two weeks.

My wife and I combine for about $300K a year. My salary is searchable information as a a 'state employee' (find the right website, enter my name, and bingo, you see how much I got paid each month for the last 10 years) so I have no qualms about talking numbers.
We are right around 40 - net worth about 600K but that is mostly just retirement and house equity (in other words, doesn't matter much). My job is very stable (tenured engineering professor), her job is decently stable, one preteen kid, and we are 1/3 of the way through a 30 year mortgage. Our other two cars are Toyotas that have long been paid off and have been cheap to own. The $80K we spent on a BMW last year didn't feel too rich and I don't blink at the price of gas for it. It definitely feels more comfortable than when we spent $30K on a Toyota 10 years ago when we made about 40% less, had a fresh mortgage, and a kid in daycare. To add: We paid off student loans a decade ago, and didn't have that many thanks to several scholarships, going to cheap public state schools, and working a lot during our undergrads (grad schools were paid for through research assistantships, fellowship, etc). My kid will be able to go to the university I work at (you can guess which one based on my location) tuition-free as a perk of the job, so I'm not worried about that. Though, I really hope she leaves this state and experiences more of the world after that. And we have yet to inherit a dime from anyone, nor expect to. Lucky in some things in life, but not in others. Last edited by MarkOK; 08-14-2023 at 09:54 PM.. Reason: Added the to add: |

About $350k this yr, should get to ~$400k next yr.
But i have massive student loans, pay a lot in rent, and pay a lot in taxes (see location). I'd make my life easier if I moved to any state besides New York

Wife and me $750K (+ stocks and bonus) this year. Both in tech. She is a principle architect at AWS, me an exec at a software company. Luckily no debt, around $150 K left to pay on our 15 year mortgage…no car payments etc etc. trying to live a stress free life 😊
