STOP the BMW tears

Washed the car today and used a fine microfiber cloth in the front of each door to stop those drips / tears which keep coming for a while after washing the car. So annoying those water marks.

Leave the towels in while drying and quick detailing the car, remove them, and no more tears.

The only issue I ever have after a wash is water dripping from the side mirrors and a little water coming from the trunk when you open and close it again.

I use an air compressor to blow the water out of a few different spots, especially the rear spoiler and a few trim spots. That helps a lot.

I do this. But instead of a air compressor, I have a leaf blower.

If you don't have access to air, you can always just take the car for a quick drive and then wipe off any drips.

That is exactly what I do whenever possible.

Agree. I do the same including the door jams.

Anyway, don't put your car on the road after the mentioned procedure: It's iron (and ironic) law that after some miles the driver in front of you decides that his windshield is dirty and urgently needs to be washed with a decent amount of an undefined, cheap cleaning water mixture.

My E46 doesn't drip much, but damn the E90 does, and I blow dry it, bit it just keeps coming down the pillars and over the side skirts.

My only real way of having a spot free car is to come back about an hour later and dab the remaining water with a soft MF towel.

Using a leaf blower or some type of forced/compressed air will help with this. Around your front grill, mirrors, headlights/taillights, gas door, and door sills. This will prevent most of it. As soon as you take it outside a small amount of dust will land on it (especially driving down the road). Striving for perfection will only frustrate you - I totally understand though. I have to try and follow my own advice

Ya, I've had to come down from my peak detail mania.

I shoot for 9/10 on things now so as to preserve my mental health (I'm a husband and a father as well, after all )

I use a leaf blower, move it into the garage, and hand dry it. Then I go back and use a ceramic quick detailer on areas like door jambs etc.

Then the next day I use the quick detailer on all the water that magically dripped overnight.

I just let it drain and come back into the garage later and wipe it with the edge of the same wet towel. I do slide my towel under the license plate frame and open and close the trunk several times to keep it from dripping.

My biggest issue after washing the car is how much water gets behind the center cap. It used to take me forever to get it to stop coming out, then I found this little center cap puller on Amazon, now I just pop them out and dry inside. It's amazing how much water is in there every time, and it's then very clear why that hub area rusts. I've painted all that inside, but still dry it every time as well.

Since moving to North Texas 3 years ago I have completely given up trying to have a spotless car..Its literally dusty 30 mins after washing and waxing and sitting in a closed garage. Now Its just various stages of "pretty clean" but either has splashes, or dust, or both on it all times...Supposedly there is a new PPF that repels dust, which I would try, but I actually like not being so pedantic about having a spotless car, and just drive it more. Also seriously considering powder coating my wheels satin dark grey, aka brake dust color.

I use a leaf blower and it's eliminated the usual drips, except for where the front and rear doors meet above the rocker panels. Water just finds a way to hide from me there. I end up wiping it several times throughout the course of cleaning. Never occurred to me to just wedge a towel there...
