But then the sizes of the vehicles has grown. What was a 7 series is now a 5 series. What was a 5 series is now a 3 series.

You’re not wrong but highly doubt that’s what’s going on in their minds - this is a decision strictly based on price. Everyone always want the allure of having then higher trim or model…if the price is right.

Those price increases, whilst unwelcome, look positively tiny compared to the BMW UK cost to have a one month subscription to Assisted Driving Plus in my UK 2022 2 Series Active Tourer (U06).
Assisted Driving Plus gives adaptive cruise control with speed limit and distance control. I have subscribed a couple of times at UK£35 (approx US$43.50) for one month and found it useful, although quite costly, when covering longer than usual drives in England. Not worth taking out a 1/3/5 years subscription.
My most recent 'one month subscription' expired 1 June '23 and I had intended paying for a further month from July to cover holiday drives etc.
I looked at the costs again today, only to see that BMW UK has hiked the fee to UK£55 (approx US$68.50), an increase of just over 57%.
This is nothing more than a total rip-off.

I was looking at an X3, now I'm looking at an X0...
