Voice control is only truly practical for devices far enough away you can’t reach them. Like the Amazon Echo in my living room. Still, I DO NOT LIKE talking to it.

Voice control falls apart in a car as soon as you have passengers. Interrupting a conversation to turn on your heated seat is such a ridiculous proposition!

Like many things these days, the pendulum has swung WAY too far to one side. Here’s hoping common sense starts flowing back into our lives soon.

I hope one day we can look back and say, “remember that fad of getting rid of buttons?” I doubt it though… the cost savings will be too attractive, and once we stop making buttons the manufacturing ability will die and will never come back.

I just want them to sell us a wagon in the US. If hybrid M5 wagon is the only way to get it. I will gladly buy one. We can’t have everything we want.

That is odd as starting with iD7 BMW went with Nuance (now Cerence after spinning off the automotive segment) for the assistant. Even in my M850i coupe (small cabin) with my wife talking away in the passenger seat I can throw all voice commands at the assistant with zero issues. I've never used it for heating seats, steering wheel, etc. as that's all automatically set via the climate control app based on ambient temperatures.

My go to is for playing music off of the 2TB SSD in the console. I can call out an album or just a song and it hits 100% of the time. That's with my wife jabbing away in the passenger seat. 😜

Ironically Volkswagen is bringing them back at least for the steering wheel based on customer feedback. It takes a village but to your point the cost savings are too attractive.

Having a Manual g82 I get the whole disappointment of loosing a physical shift knob to shift gears while driving as you lose some aspect of control of the car. Being seated and able to reach the bottom right or left is a very comfortable position to switch gears when spirited driving. That being said I'm in a loaner 24 530i xdrive. The car feels surprisingly light and amazingly comfortable based on its weight. I knew the ride quality would be somewhat improved but this is very nice! Still keeping my M4 though lol
