The S68 is capable of producing more than 600 hp why did BMW bring it out on the G90 with only 585 hp??? The answer is to make room for the future Competition version or whatever they want to call it.

Hopefully by then they will offer a better interior options and quality than the current...
The V8 is downtuned because of EU regulations on lambda = 1. If you don’t like it, go complain to those countries.

One the other hand, the red label XM has the same emissions with the lesser model even though it has 100 more horsepower as per the respective certificates of conformity.

If they could boost the g90 up without messing with the lambda=1 rule it could happen.

I think only the M3 and M4 have both a “base” and competition model. The M2, X3 M, and X4 M don’t have a competition version, and every other M car is only the competition (X5/X6 M, M8). I think we will see the competition designation go away and there will just be a “base” model that is effectively what a competition would be. We may be hotter CS or CSL versions, but the base vs competition just makes inventory difficult.

This difficulty is part of the reason you see automakers making fewer options available. It makes production and inventory difficult.

The X3 M and X4 M have (or had in the X3 M case now) a competition package, it was not a separate model. Otherwise, you get a base X3 M and X4 M
