M5 Owners Almost Never Take Their Cars to the Track, Says BMW
Absolutely no surprise here. I just got an M8 comp and have zero desire to Race my car. Just knowing I have the Big Boy is sufficient for me.

I might go to a drag strip, but certainly not a road course. There are so few road courses left in the US that it just wouldn’t be convenient. I think Barber Motorsports Park outside of Birmingham, AL is the closest to me and that is 3.5 hours away. The next closest is probably Road Atlanta almost 6 hours away.

Describes me very accurately. Never track my cars. Have owned many BMWs, other brands too, but my BMW evolution was all 3’s, then M3, then 5’s, then M5.
As I’ve posted a few times, I still think it’s ridiculous that the only press-drive experience on the G90 M5 was a silly race track circuit and not out on some real roads… where almost entirely all G90 M5 miles will be driven. |

M5 is NOT a track car. Its always been just way too heavy. Its more of an Autobahn/Interstate burner...
If you want a track car, get an M3/M4 or M2...

Let me try to explain it as simply as I can: we buy cars that perform well on track not because we are planning to take said car to the track and pull sub 7:30 times on the nurburgring in an F90 or 911 Turbo. We have no interest or intention. We buy track capable cars because of what they’re capable of.
You think more than 5% of GT3 owners track their car, ever? At least Porsche is smart enough to know if they released a GT3 RS that wasn’t track focused (or any 911 that couldn’t handle track driving) that it would offend many 911 buyers.
