Does anyone actually have an order in the system yet? My dealer says no allocations have been assigned or available yet and I work directly with a longtime sales manager.

I had asked someone else this who said he had placed an order but haven't heard back yet..."my guy" is the best in business - he's also the busiest - but I haven't heard from him regarding allocations, and I am one of those "sorry to bother you about this again, but any word yet" type people. And now that I've said this, I'll hear from him later today w/ one...

My dealer said they have their allocation as one of the highest volume dealer in the country - my car is scheduled for Week 37 this year (September) and will arrive by November at the dealership. But my dealer also told me they won't know production number until it enters production... so we'll see.

Interesting. You are located in my same city. Are you dealing with Hendrick? I’m on my 5th M with them and per the sales mgr I deal with they have no allocations company wide yet.

I am in no rush and would prefer to see this car and drive it before ordering one blindly. Just thought it’s strange the mixed information that’s out there especially if it’s from the same dealer.

I don’t think your dealer is being honest with you. My dealer in DFW area is top 3 BMW dealers in the country and has 37 M5 orders waiting to be accepted into the order bank and be assigned production numbers with build weeks assigned to them after they have been accepted in order bank. My guess is you are one of the first at your dealer with an order in and they are assuming you will receive in November. I am number 2 on the list at my dealer and they told me the same thing but also said no build weeks are assigned until production number is assigned. They told me two days ago that no US dealers have had any production numbers assigned yet and orders being assigned production numbers are still out of the country but they will start accepting orders in the order bank very soon.

Still can't wrap my head around the new design and weight. I will be sticking to the F90 for sure.

I have a production number and have had one for many weeks. Hasn’t moved from that step yet online.

I’m in Las Vegas. I think I’m the 1st allocation. I got my production number about 2-3 weeks ago. It hasn’t updated from order received yet.

Hmm, perhaps or they are just misinformed. Though I also do not think what yours said is correct, either, haha (just incorrect in a different way). Yours said "no build weeks are assigned until production numbers are assigned", however I've heard from multiple folks (including above post from rjlsae) that production numbers are assigned well before build weeks are assigned.

Looks like that production week was listed as the "Req. Prod", which I take stands for "requested production week". My order is now supposedly in stage 111, which they said was pre-production. I would assume by then it has received a production number, but my dealer told me none have been assigned yet (hence why I think my dealer may be misinformed about this).

First World problem it may be but I’m really struggling with the colour combo.

I’m not going for an Individual colour as dealer quoting €7,000. I see no value in it.

My G90 is going to production on Nov 20. I have limited time to make changes.

When I ordered in June I was planning on relying on my G90 as my sole daily. That’s now changed. I’ll be using another vehicle for work & kids etc so I perhaps don’t need to make the M5 as covert as I originally might have.

Worth noting that I live in Ireland and this is not the home of screaming bright colours like CA or FL. With one eye on residuals, I don’t want to spec something that I’ll need a divorce lawyer to help me get rid of when the time comes.

Another issue is the difficulty in seeing the vehicles in the real World. Good as the configurator is, nothing beats real life.

So, I’m torn between:

Exterior:

Carbon Black
or
Sophisto Grey (Dark Graphite in US)

Interior

Silverstone & black
or
Kyalami Orange

Below are the Config links.

I’m interested in opinions.
Also, is the Kyalami very Marmite, that is to say, Love or Hate? Would it affect residuals?

Carbon black + Kyalami

Carbon black +
Silverstone

Sophisto grey +
Silverstone

Truly first world problem but my first choice would be Carbon Black/Kyalami combo.

I would get Silverstone with Sophisto; not a fan of the brown/grey combo.

Thanks for your input.
My current order is Sophisto /Silverstone but I am tempted to ‘go mad’ and switch to Carbon /Kyalami.

The problem with the latter is the conservative Irish buyer …later on in the used market. I contacted a trade-buyer today and he said he’d prefer to see me coming with a conservative interior colour than a love/hate one that might put the majority of customers off.

Interestingly, the USA configurator is showing Black Leather as ‘trending’.

If a country with a pop. of 345M aren’t shifting Kyalami in numbers, I’ve no hope in one of 5.5! 🤣

Would you do Carbon/Silverstone?

I would not read much into the US trending brought to you by BMW’s great predictive models.

C/S is great as well.

Are you leasing the car? I think there would be buyers on the second hand market for the carbon / kyalami combination. At the end of the day, when making a purchase such as this I would order it just like I want it and not for the person that may purchase it in the future.

The base spec seems to be a bit better in Ireland… Iconic Glow, Parking Assist Plus & Interior Cam are all standard. You need the Exec pack for them in USA.

I would like Vent. Seats but we have a ‘Comfort Pack’ that includes the blinds, rear seat heating, the sockets for accessories on back of front seats. None of which I need.

I do like the iconic glow. It features in all of the BMW smokey videos and it does add some road presence to my eyes but I fully get to others it may seem like a gimmick. But, to your spec… I’d add the $500 Iconic Glow. Is this what you mean by ‘Exterior Package’? I can’t see anything else matching?

Looks are subjective but, as you’re asking:

1. I think a darker colour on the G90 hides its bulk a wee bit and helps the various plastic inserts to blend a bit better

2. Black leather would be a hard no for me. Millions of cars are full black. Change it up a bit.

3. I cannot see whether the base US spec includes antracite headining. A must for me.

Decisions decisions! 🤣

When’s your one due at your dealer?

Mine is Dec 15 but out plates change with the calendar year so won’t register /collect until Jan 3.

No, not a leasing fan. Any tax advantage is quickly wiped out by outrageous Benefit in Kind taxation. So, personal purchase.
I’ll be taking the depreciative hit. Head on! 🙈 Hence my interest in a people-pleasing spec!
But I hear you.
If I had a chance to see Kyalami in the flesh… I’d have much better insight.
