I’ve never understood the vilification of the E67 “Bangle Butt”. The magazines were very negative about it, yet flip the page and they were still lauding the E30 M3 as the darling of every driving and show event even though it was then out of production.
The E30 M3 has a built up trunk lid that always has looked very much to me like the E67’s “Bangle Butt”. Both are thick trunk lids that stick up higher than usual and appear to lie on top of the rear side panels. This is particularly noticeable on the E30 M3 since it is clearly different from the regular E30 trunk lid that that closes and lies flush with the top of the side panels. Frankly I like the look on both cars, and find the E67’s built up trunk lid pleasing and hardly worth the extreme reaction, particularly from people who in the next breath would then wax rapturous about the E30 M3’s body kit. |

I liked the Bangle designs just fine. This current crop of new designs are awful.

How about this, lot of current owners affected
https://thebrakereport.com/bmw-recal...n%20deliveries. Key Highlights: 1.5 million vehicles recalled over brake system concerns. Affects both sold and 320,000 undelivered cars. Delivery ban on new vehicles due to safety concerns. BMW adjusts its 2024 profit and sales forecast. Weaker demand in China and the recall weigh on BMW’s performance. BMW’s shares, along with those of supplier Continental, have fallen following the announcement. |

Am I entitled because of the brake issue or the designs?
But seriously what’s the cutover on the 24 models for the brake issue? August 24? Just talked to my sales guy, apparently it can affect my 2024 X7… like a ticking time bomb… |

You could start a class action suit against BMW for poor design.
Their mixup of the design team is admission of guilt. |

Everyone talked the same sh*t about Bangle designs as now. Others IMO doing the same or not worse.
Audi is starting to go downhill with blobby designs, screens everywhere, piano black, and haptic buttons. Not even talking about that hideous A6 e-tron that they ruined. Current (2019-2024) design language was the best for Audi. Merc... well sales figures say a lot when customers choose 7 series over S class. |

While Audi design evolution is much less daring and controversial they aren’t an option for many BMW fans. All Audi ICE cars except the R8 are built on FWD platforms that carry more weight on the front axle by design, adding AWD doesn’t change that.
For today’s 5k lbs SUV trend it doesn’t really matter much but for everything sporty…it matters. But yes, today’s BMWs aren’t pretty. |

I guess the E39 M5 was the one everyone loved when it first came out. But have you seen the E39 recently? It's a bit outdated in tech and power in today's standard. I guess we can never be fully satisfied. But then like you said, we all come around so the new models grow on us or maybe technology just drives us forward. |

I have never disliked a BMW design until the 7 series started going with the giant grills, and then the 4 series beaver grills. I loved the E60 and the F10, and the F90 I think is the best car BMW ever built. The G90 I don't like, though. It's not about hating what's new, it's just legitimately not a great design. BMW has lost the plot with their current design philosophy.

van Hooydonk is still in charge of the design department. He hired Dukek, he signed off on all the designs people hate, and he will continue along the same design themes for the foreseeable future.
