Stage tuning for G90 M5.

Want to get more information from the knowledgeable part of the community here. How does staging a hybrid engine work? And how stable and reliable it is in the long run? Additionally, how much power do you think can G90 put down, with stage 2 flash?Would appreciate useful feedback.

People have been tuning the XM drivetrain so you might want to peak over there.

The transmission will likely be your limiting factor. Transmissions don’t care so much about HP, but torque instead. The electric motor is in between the gas engine and transmission meaning it’s torque is going through the transmission.

The new M5 uses the 4th generation of the ZF 8HP transmission. The max torque rating on the 8HP family is 1000nm, coincidentally what the M5 makes. I’m sure there is some safety margin built in there, but technically I think we are at the max torque that transmission is rated for.

I have modified every car I have ever had, but I think I will be leaving the drivetrain of this one stock. If things break, it will start to get EXPENSIVE!
