Sadly, I just don't think most after-market body trim kits will be able to salvage the initial bad design decisions on both the front and rear of the G99. At best, they are cosmetic band-aids in certain areas and at worse, too heavy handed and rather comical applications.

I realize that automotive styling tastes are all very personal with no absolute right or wrong, but time will tell if we Americans will appreciate the new BMW G99 enough to buy/lease it. Personally, I really wanted to like it and once revealed, if I did, I was ready to place an order. But unfortunately, seeing it up front, in the flesh last month confirmed to me that it just does not "push my buttons" aesthetically, nor with its other complex battery/ICE mechanical powertrain choice.

While the body design of the Audi RS 6 Avant may be several years old, it is IMHO, a much more sleek, elegant and attractive design, without sacrificing an impressive agressive look. The fact that the RS 6 is also and ICE vehicle and not a PHEV vehicle makes it more appealing to me for a less potential problematic, complicated long-term ownership.

All of us BMW loyalists have to weigh the pros & cons of the G99 and decide how we want to proceed. For me, I have made my decison and have recently placed an order for a new, custom-colored 2025 Audi RS 6 Avant Performance (C8) with April 2025 delivery. I have included some recent photos of this vehicle from two different local Audi Dealers for comparison to the BMW G99. You be the judge... I wish all of you the best in your choice(s).

Audi is the undisputed leader of German auto design at the moment.
There is not a single bad-looking car in their lineup.

No, they are not pushing any boundaries. They have have simple designs that conform to an overall brand theme, and it's working. Even the Audi electric cars look fantastic, which is something that can't be confidently stated about Mercedes or BMW.

I’m happy for your choice, but this design is already quite dated and behind the curve.

I was very much pro-RS6 when it first launched but I’d be choosing a G99 hands down over this. We’ll see what the new RS7 Avant looks like when it’s launched as it’ll be a much more modern design and a direct comparison to the G99.

Hideous, sorry. This G81 is a case study in how to overdo it. Ironic that you’re flaming AutoID’s much more tasteful G99 kit and then you throw this thing up .

That said, the G81 is the best looking wagon currently on the road in my opinion.

Sleeper:

I share your admiration of the BMW G81 and also consider it to be one of the best loooking Touring/Shooting Brake/Station Wagons currently on the international market. But alas, BMW in their head-scratching management choices decided not to bring it to the U.S. So unfortunately, we only have the new G99 as an alternative to BMW’s SUV’s.

While your correct that the Audi RS 6 Avant body design has been around for several years, the latest “Performance” iteration has improved it in noticeable ways. On paper, it is faster than the G99 in 0-60 mph acceleration, is more utilitarian in that it holds more cargo capacity, has a tried and proven 63O hp twin turbo V-8 engine producing 850 newton meters of torque in a straight forward ICE propulsion system that sounds wonderful and is approximately 600 lbs lighter than the mechanically complex G99 PHEV. So for many, in addition to aesthetic preferences, it is still superior in those categories over the new G99.

I said what I said. To each his or her own. Blue with the exact exterior mods posted is the way I'll take it. Can't wait to see it on the road.
