This. Mild hybrid but slightly bigger from my m340, tick the boxes for hybrid. Tap out somewhere in the 4600lbs range. Regular driving gas mileage would be way better too which is hilariously counter intuitive. This is just not the car to try a nonsense electric only plug in. Any other 5 series, fine, but the mega performance sporty one? For real Bavarian Engineers???

I have absolutely no idea... my secret thinking is that this is a test bed for some sort of ev hybrid tech for the future more than anything, maybe a future M3 when the batteries get smaller or more efficient... but that's many years away. They've already said the next m3 will likely be a normal hybrid... which is what this should have been... again, no idea what the goal here was as it appears minimal effort was put in.

I have been driving only BMW, Merc and Audi for the past 25 years and I guess I just take build quality for granted now. When you close the doors on German cars they don't shake or rattle, they are like a bank vault.

I’m under the impression that most people who will opt for the G90 won’t be driving around in all electric mode to save on gas. My wife and I looked at an x5 50e and were disappointed in the 30 mile range in all electric mode so we went with an iX. It seemed pointless to get a hybrid for 30 miles in electric mode in a family vehicle. I don’t see the G90 as a typical family hybrid where people drive around in electric mode to avoid gas stations. For me, if I’m blessed enough to get my hands on a G90, I’ll probably always be in sport mode like I am in my G30. But my commute is like yours so perhaps I’m being narrow-minded.

Would be fun to see how the G90 performs here in drag races or 100-200kmh tests with a drained battery. Not that it will be all that bad, but would love to see it. Not sure the system can even run without the battery tho

I think it’s time for everyone to take the red pill here. All the comparisons of the new M5 to traditional petrol cars and why it’s so heavy due to the battery is moot. We all know the next M5 will be EV. At this point I hate EVs as much as the next guy. Living in IL and seeing what happens to EVs during a cold snap is laughable.

Reading all these posts reminds me of digital film. Every purist said traditional film was never going away, and was so much better than digital. We all know where that stands today. If you hate the way the car looks that’s understandable, don’t buy it. If we are talking about its performance for this price point, it’s undeniably good. 99% of people buying this car probably only care about straight line speed and that’s what drives BMWs intentions.

Maybe I’ll be wrong but suspect we’ll see the day when this will be thought of as the last great M5 with a V8 Engine.

Someone save this post so you can drag me through the mud when I’m wrong

I think it's absolutely pertinent. The G90 will have to get me and other F90 owners out of the seats of their current cars. To compare a F90 to a Cleo is unfair but to compare recent F90 owners, that have the means to purchase a G90, is more than relevant. An F90 is the definition of a well-rounded car so I'm not really relating to the comparison F90 to Cleo. For me to buy a G90 in the near future, it has to be better than my F90 at that time or else, ill update when I'm bored or the F90 starts giving me problems.

I don't think you're wrong. Not a huge fan of the looks thus far but im happy with the performance metrics. Hopefully by the time I'm in the market 2026 i'll have fully some around on the looks. If its tuning any where over 1000 it will be an early upgrade in spring 2025.

Try taking it on a long road trip. Charging the battery with the motor, and driving spiritedly, *rips* through gas (even short-ish trips tbh). This is def an issue with hybrids, let alone one with a V8. That said, it should always be charging the battery, as that’s how most hybrid systems are designed (not to run without the battery)

Here's the thing, the majority of people, even on this forum, literally have no idea what they are talking about and oddly enough, this is their avenue to seek validation about their vehicle purchase.
You are of course correct, the G90 will always have all that power no matter how "low" the battery gets. It's the same on my Wrangler 4xe, which has a 17ish kWh battery but always uses 15ish kWh to charge, meaning there's always an extra kWhs left in the battery that gets cycled while driving in hybrid mode. The car always has full power. That huge wave of low end electric tq is a game changer.

That’s how it’s supposed to work, and I think for most hybrids, running it with a completely dead battery can damage the system

There are people here actually wants this EV tech in a daily while still having a TTV8. Its the best of both worlds that has real world benefits. There's a ton of people not willing to jump all in with EV but can see the benefits of it. This is the car for those people. This is the only reason why I'm even interested in the M5 over my current X5M Comp which I absolutely love.

Wait until all of the other cars in this class gets updated. The curb weight of the M5 will be the norm for these types of vehicles.

The G90 should have been a regular hybrid with a much smaller battery. This would have drastically reduced the weight and improved the performance so it was a clear improvement over the F90.

The new 911 hybrid shows the way forward. The hybrid 911 weighs only 125lbs or so more than the non-hybrid version and is a big step up in performance over the prior GTS.

The plug-in hybrid makes a lot of sense in Europe where cars can't enter some city centers unless they run in EV only mode. This isn't an issue in America and lugging around the huge battery all the time doesn't make much sense.

Did anyone watch their full review of the G90? They didn’t really like the driving dynamics outside of the straight line speed.

I’m surprised how many care about drag times for a $125K automatic/hybrid sedan. Yeah, it’s cool, but when are you actually going to do that in the real world?

I guess it’s a cool niche market, and it’s certainly not the worst looking BMW on sale. I’d personally go with the E60 or E39 with a manual and happily get smoked by the G90. If I wanted a warranty, I think a 1-2 year old G80 manual is a much better value proposition.

Plus more than half the people crapping on this car here have no intentions of buying an M5 to begin with. I don't care what other people here think. I know what I want.
