Talking *VIDEO & Photos* AUTOID | The New AUTOID G90 M5 | Owners Impressions

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey guys, looks like deliveries are coming through thick and fast now

We were lucky enough to be one of the first in the UK to receive ours. We’ve given our honest thoughts and impressions below.

Worth noting, neither myself or Nathan have owned any previous generations of M5. We have both owned G80/G82s and I currently own a 720bhp G87 M2.

We’ll be working with a bunch of partners to help develop this platform.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Check it out:

Congrats ! Enjoy it ! I honestly don’t see myself trading my F90 in for this, I just can’t get behind the design change… and I’m not against new designs, I actually liked and owned the G80 when it first came out. I just don’t feel the same way about this.

Great color choice it works on this car.

What's the deal with the LED lighting zone in the section where the climate control is supposed to be? Is that customizable/controllable/user programmable? Or is it /m colors all day every day?

What's the thing to the left of the rear defogger with the status/progress bar?

The mode he is in is causing it to be the M-Colors. It can also be the ambient lighting color.

Yep.....the 7 series has this, too.
No way to custom do colors this way, either.....

The sliders on the left and right of the defogger controls are air vent controls. 0 off and 1 on.

Very disappointed. What a shame! Why mess with a good thing? Traditionally every new M model has been faster than it’s predecessor. The new G90 is 1000 lbs heavier by being turned into a hybrid so that it can drive only 25 miles on electricity?! I think BMW messed it up this time. They have the i5 for people who want an electric car. Why did they have to mess with the M? I hope there’s gonna be a competition model in the pipes for the true M enthusiasts. For now, I’ll stick with my M8. By the way, their experiment with the XM failed miserably and it’ll be discontinued. They should’ve known better.

Assuming you realize the G90 is in fact faster than it's predecessor?

And the XM failed for two reasons.

Way over priced for what you were getting

Controversial styling (I flat out think its ugly from every angle except the front)

It did NOT fail because of the powertrain or weight.

This thinking isn't logical. Right or wrong in order to make this car faster than it's predecessor AND meet emission standards they had to take the PHEV route. This is reality and will be the case moving forward. The next new M5 will no doubt will be an EV to meet new standards. I'm not saying it's a good thing but it's a fact and we all need to accept it.

If anything I’d think a mild hybrid should satisfy any emissions requirements without going full plug in. Plus Porsche is still making new V8 models without any extra batteries. Mild hybrid seemed like at worst the next logical step, but oh well
