Are the dash and door materials leather or plastic?
For people who had a chance to get into an M5, are the dash and door materials hard plastic or leather? Just judging from photos and videos, it looks like plastic, but I've heard from people that sat in the car say it is actually leather. Not merino leather but some other kind of leather.

Yeah, lower part is the vacuum-formed plastic. The upper doors and the dash are their soft-touch plastic, which does have a semi-leathery feel. I prefer its feel, actually, to the full leather.
It's what's in the iX, and it's pretty nice. |

Is it the same material as a regular 5 series?

When I had the regular 5 series for a few days while my car was in service, I was really nervous about my M5 order, as the interior felt way cheaper than the interior of my G30 M550i. The first moment I entered the M5 however, this all disappeared. The interior is beautiful and the leather used for the seats, backseats and main door panels is absolutely amazing. So soft.
My M550i is all leather and the M5 has a few soft plastic panels on the door and dash where the G30/F90 have leather, but the material does not feel cheap. The window buttons and panels around them are still hard plastic though, although this does not bother me that much. What I really hope though is that the springs of the cup holders are improved. After a few months, these always start to squeal, which annoys the hell out of me. |
