peculiar manner. I never learned what her condition was, but I know that she never had a driver’s license. Otherwise, she did well in school, despite the cruel fact that a few students made fun of her unusual gait. Sadly, she passed away about 15 years ago at the young age of 60.

I've had knee, particularly the left one, problems from when I first smashed my knee up speed skating back in the late 70's.
I had my first reco on my left knee back when I was about 15 and was told to never play sport again. Did I listen, no way known! Up until I was 40ish I was playing two games of football (Soccer) a week, Friday night and Saturday afternoons, and the pain what that bad that I couldn't walk on Saturday night. A patellofemoral replacement to each knee when I was about 50 put an end to my sporting career. Move to the last few years and I have had really bad pain in my left knee and was thinking it was arthritis and I would have to have a full replacement. Went to see my Orthopaedic Surgeon and he said, from x-rays that my knee looked fine, good spacing and so on. Go and have an MRI he says. Have that done and there is a 13x8mm (the size of a jelly bean) cyst in my tibia! There are also many other cysts in the knee but that is typical of what I have. Looks like I now have to get a full knee replacement after all! Bugger and I'm not looking forward to it! |

If it's a meniscal cyst, it can be drained in your doctor's office as it's only an accumulation of synovial fluid forming a pouch. But it can return if the tear is not dealt with. Something to talk about with your health provider.

One week from today, my wife will be getting a full knee replacement. She has been struggling with it for 5 years and various injections and other treatments stopped providing any relief so she has been in significant pain and has become quite inactive as a result. Doctors advised waiting as long as possible since she was in her early 50s when this started. But all agreed it is time now.
We are both nervous about the procedure (maybe me more than her) and know it will be a difficult and lengthy recovery period, but look forward to a time when she doesn’t have to live with this amount of pain.

It is a daunting procedure to look at, but they really have it down at this point. I worked on a rehab floor where we had 1-2 knee replacements in per week. Almost everyone was feeling better at discharge than they had been before the surgery, and with much more improvements over the subsequent rehab period. I would recommend doing inpatient rehab, or a similar level of intensity at home; this is very worthwhile for both speed and amount of recovery.
