Troubleshooting Squeaks & Rattles (e.g. squeaky brakes)

Figured a consolidated place for folks to put squeaks / rattles might be helpful.

I've got squeaky brakes (non CCB). They actually get squeakier as the car is driven harder. Is this normal? The dealer said it's normal, but I thought it was the CCBs that are more likely to squeak (one reason I opted for standard).

Also have an intermittent rattle sound on driver's side high-up and just in front of the B-pillar. Having the shop take a look at it, but of course it's intermittent and can happen at various speeds... but if they replicate it I'll report back with what they say.

Are you new to M cars, squeaky brakes are normal, except I do feel these g90s don’t squeak as bad as my m2,3,4 and f90c used to

All M cars, it seems since the dawn of time have had issues with squeaky breaks.

Also, same might be said about "rattles". Certainly existed with F series vehicles, for sure. I would have hoped it would be resolved by now, but I recall finding this solution a while back. Short version for the b-pillars: Try gummi pflege.

Using gummi pflege on the seals where the plastic hard interior door trim meets the spongy door seal is what worked for me. Sure, my F80 is not a G90 but plastic is plastic and that area has historically caused that "rattle" sound by the B-pillars. Coating those surfaces with Gummi pflege every 3-6 months absolutely eliminated all squeaking/rattling from the b-pillars for me.

I posted many times that with the weight of the G90 that CCB's were a must. The steel brakes on my 1st F90 M5 which was 1000 lbs lighter squeaked like crazy. My second F90 has CCB's and no brake noise or brake dust.

After your washes you will hear less or no noise for a day or two, then it comes back. The harder you brake the less noisier they are. Some even say brake super hard once or twice and it goes away for a while. Honestly, turn up the music and you will never hear it. And if people look at you from outside, assume they are appreciating and not wondering why a brand new nice looking car has brake noise 🤣

WELLLLPPPPPPP thats another strike against it for me. Ive had an f10 M5, and f90c now and the f90 brakes are the worst ive ever experienced with any performance car, and I've had many with large 4-6-8 piston caliper, cross drilled rotors, and that would have a been a nice selling point.

Ive tried EVERYTHING mentioned here, and every other thread to get my brakes to quiet down and there is nothing that worked with any sort of long term fix. At most I can get them to quiet down for the remainder of a drive, but it always comes back.

There is countless threads about this issue with BMW, and its absurd, they still cant figure it out.

And save it with the "performance brakes are noisy", sure, yes, some are, but no, not all are, hell not even all m5s are noisy. It's a design flaw, and they refuse to fix it and point you to "M cars have squeaky brakes even says so in the manual"... well.... fix it BMW.

CCB for me would be a must on g90.

I was wondering if this would be resolved on the G90. Time will tell how widespread the problem is. I wonder if the brakes were changed from the F90 or the same brake design was used.

Steel brakes on my F90 were the most awful sounding, loudest and embarrassing brake squeal I have heard on any car. People would constantly ask me what was wrong with my car. Nothing could be done to resolve it. Hard braking, light braking, didn’t matter.

BMW stands for “brakes must whine.”

Yes, don't order the car without them.

100% yes, im not sold on the car yet, so may be a moot point anyway... but if I do, itll have CCB with out a doubt. Just the brake dust alone is enough for me to not want steels on any performance car.

I would hope something on the design changed a little, I dont know the size between f90 and g90, but I would be surprised if they didnt at least change something with them considering the extra heft from the car, and the hydbir-regen stuff. But i'm no engineer, and have no idea.

The steel brakes work great, I have no issues from a performance stand point, it's all dust and noise.

It not as bad as the f90 btw. F90 sounded like my weekly WM trash day dump truck and g90 sounds like an ocassional squeak from your daily Amazon truck, makes sense?

I-sweep pads from r33_RGSport fixed all brake noise and most brake dust on my G80. I believe they have some for the G90?

Do CCBs cause less noise than the steel brakes? I’ve never had them, but have them spec’ed on my G99.

Yes, I currently do have low dust and no squeal iSweep front pads for G90/G99 M5 with steel brakes since it is the same as F9x M5/M8/X5M/X6M.
The rear is in the work since it is different size and style.

CCB do have less noise, but do make some noise sometime. Also, you will need to warm it up before it perform optimally.
Don't forget the cost to replace the rotor when needed.
