G90 vs G80
After 3 years at the wheel of the G80 my assessment is very positive. It's a car that can do everything well (especially in xdrive version) and I haven't had any problems during these three years. I've owned a G90 for a few weeks now, so here are the main differences I've noticed:
1) The dimensions of the G90 are very imposing and the driving position is higher. On this point I prefer the G80. On the other hand, the steering wheel response is more direct and gives more sensations on the G90 (This is a defect that BMW has improved on the CLS and CS versions of the G80) 2) The S58 is probably the best 6 cylinder in the industry. On the other hand, the sound of the V8, the enormous and instantaneous torque of the G90's hybrid system are to the G90's advantage. The G80's acceleration is very impressive over the first 100 feet, especially with the use of launch control which is incredible. But without using launch control and on a rolling start the G90 is clearly faster. 3) The braking of both cars is good without being exceptional, as is their agility. The G90 is heavier but the G80 is not light either. None of these cars are super nimble. I also own a 981 Porsche which reminds me that the two BMWs are much more powerful but do not offer the same pleasure in cornering and braking. Lots of luxury, electronics, but more sanitized. 4) Both cars are comfortable, the M5 even more so. On the other hand, despite its size, the M5 does not offer more space in the trunk, which is disappointing. Finally, in traffic the 100% electric driving of the M5 is a big plus, no petrol and absolute silence for work meetings on the phone. Last edited by GJBFI; 02-12-2025 at 10:50 PM.. |

Nice write up. Just more proof that if you already have fun and fast toys the M5s shortcomings aren’t that bad. Which is not to say the m5 should have such glaring issues with weight or whatever people like to complain about but that it’s easier to stomach

Coming from G80 and G81, i agree. I've made a similar post with my subjective feel between the two. I actually find the G90 easier to have fun with on the road vs the G80, for whatever reasons the G90 feels just more alive... which is kind of crazy when you think about it.

I had an M8 coupe and i feel the G90 is more fun
Yes i never thought i will say that because the m8 coupe is more nimble but for some reason this car is more fun then my previous m8 coupe and i think with exhaust it will be much more engaging (waiting for my vavetronic to come) And still people in the forum wants to convince me that i dont like the car and i am stupid moving from m8 to a slower uglier worse car lol |
